There has been over 1 million of Cisco ASAs built and deployed around the world in a past years (good job Cisco!). As not supporting SNMP protocol properly, they often complicate our lives when configured to be Default gateways, not allowing products like SolarWinds User Device Tracker to monitor what's behind. Do you use your ASAs as a Default gateways too? If so, what percentage of your network they route?
Cisco ASA as a Default gateway?
Deploying Virtual Appliances
Are you comfortable with deploying virtual appliances?
We're discussing ways to deploy new products that may interact with your NPM (and other SolarWinds) deployments and one of our options is a virtual appliance.
Automated port shutdown - what would be your reasons?
There was a feature request for a UDT recently for an automated port shutdown, if the connected endpoint is on the "black list".
What would be your other reasons, for which would you want to shut down the port? Lets's go our imagination wild and imagine events like user device infected by a non-deletable virus, peer-to-peer software installed, firewall disabled? Feel free to vote for Other and leave comment. By liking the specific comments you can vote for other ideas.
Thanks!
Why do you need more than NPM's interface traffic and NTA's flow analysis
We recently saw that "Cisco NBAR support" was voted #1 enhancement request for NTA - the Network Traffic Analyzer.
Above and beyond NBAR, we are wondering what are your most important needs for advanced traffic analysis techniques such as Network Based Application Recognition-NBAR, Deep Packet Inspection-DPI, Flexible Netflow

Does your organization use Mobile Device Management or MDM?
With the explosion of smart mobile devices, both tablets and phones and end users wanting to connect them for email, remote access (VPN), wireless etc. How are you handling this? Does your organization even see this as a problem? What level of control are you looking for? Do you care if they have apps like DropBox are installed on them and uploading corporate files without your knowledge?
When I talk about Mobile Device Management I mean specifically things like:
- Remotely manage and setup end users mobile devices (i.e. Google Android or Apple iOS) with the settings for service such as email access, wireless, VPN etc.
- Enforce corporate security standards and best practices such as ensuring a pass-code is set or disabling certain feature or functions on the device like the camera
- Ability to remotely wipe a device if lost or stolen
- Report on types of devices, the hardware and software installed on them in your environment
- Track users or stolen devices via GPS
How does encrypted traffic, impact the effectiveness of your Advanced Traffic Analysis product (e.g. DPI-based solution)?
If you run an Advanced Traffic Analysis product, we are interested to hear about how impacted it is by encrypted traffic.
Example of these products/technologies: NBAR, Flexible Netflow, nProbe, Riverbed Cascade Opnet/Pilot, WildPackets, Fluke Optiview, Paessler, WireShark, Compuware...

What should Network Topology Mapper next release focus on ?
A combination of both
Get 2k thwack points and a sneak peak at possible improvements to the node details page
Hello Everyone!
I am looking for folks that use NPM today, to give feedback on new ways to possibly visualize interfaces data on a node details page.
Just did a call withadatole and he liked some of the ideas so much he wanted to make them his girlfriend.
We are hosting 1-hour feedback sessions this Friday (3/20) and next Monday (3/23). If you are interested in participating (and seeing if you would want to date one of them too) email me at katie.barbaro@solarwinds.com. Spots will fill up quick so please let me know ASAP
Thanks,

Do you track mobile devices in your network?
Strange labels in Universal Device Poller Summary Charts
Hi forum,
I often use UnDP to poll state of devices. Some OIDs give me more than one value. For example, I poll the cfwConnectionStatValue (OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.147.1.2.2.2.1.5), it gives me two value: the number of in use connection, and the most used connection. I cannot customize differently the name of two values. They just have the same customized name plus some strange numbers followed. It 's not the big problem to me, however it is not nice the chart. Please see my screenshot to catch my idea.
Many other charts also get into this. My NPM version is 10.5.
Thanks to any ideas about this problem.
Orion Node Import
I am looking for a way to import nodes into Orion Core/NPM (latest versions - 2015.1.2/11.5.2) via a text file, CSV, or Excel spreadsheet. Due to the large number of nodes on the network, and the limited number that I need to configure in NPM, I do not want to use Network Discovery. The number of nodes is large enough however, that manually creating each node would be cumbersome.
Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions.
Where can I find the SWQL Studio for download?
Looking for the SWQL Studio application.
Anyone?
Node Availability Statistics
I have a node that shows 100% availability but is also showing that it was not available for over 24 hours (the chart is blank for that period)
Why would the availability show 100%?
We had a circuit failure that cause that office to be offline for a full day. I don't understand why the statistics don't reflect that.
Unable to monitor to N7k switch
Is there a way to monitor or to view the details below in monitoring the N7K switch? Or the details below is only available for router?
*Last 10 Configuration
*Download Configs
*Last 10 Config Changes
*Config Change Report
*NCM Events
NPM 11.5.2 Upgrade ready to go?
We are currently running NPM 11.0.1 and are ready to upgrade to 11.5. I have been holding off on the upgrade until most of the bugs had been worked out. It now looks like version 11.5.2 has taken care of most of them. I am looking to get some feedback from the community on the stability and reliability of 11.5.2. Would you say it's ready for Prime Time?
Thank you for your time and responses.
Our CISCO CRS8S is not reporting correct memory utilization in solarwinds
Based on solarwinds it shows that the memory already in critical status 93% but verifying on the device memory is in normal state. Any one can help me to resolved this.
Polling Engine Failure Alert
Has anyone found a method to setting up a notification or alert if one of your polling engines are offline? Recently I discovered just through pure accident one of my polling engines was offline. I have 2 polling engines setup, after reviewing the status the error stated that the database hadn't synced in nearly 5000 minutes, so I went nearly 4 days without a SNMP poller and no indicator that there was a problem. I played around with some SQL on the advanced alert mgr. but I can't get it figured out. Just a email notification or something like that would work should one of my polling engines be unavailable. This is from another post that is unanswered and is the same error I had just a longer duration:

Trap Suppression
Does anyone have a list of common traps to suppress because they could generate alarm storms
Network Atlas missing devices
After upgrade to 11.5.2 Network Atlas no longer has access to devices not shown on map. Previously a city folder had all devices which you could drag to the map.
