Question for the community... Need your help with some issues I'm having.
Hi all,
So I have the perfect storm of issues I've been weathering for nearly 2 years now with no resolution. I was wondering if anyone had these issues and if you could share some tips that might help guide me in the right direction. Between unstable environment and early morning calls telling me the environment is down I have been living in stress and haven't been able to sleep yet. Have several tickets with support but yet unable to resolve.
1. Duplicates and triples in the environment. What I mean by this is for example I'll have one device three time with three different ip's. Or the other way around 3 devices 3 times added with three separate ips. Still haven't found a way to pull this on a report to go fix these devices.
2. Monitoring for snmp and wmi failures. It seems like creating a SAM template would be the best way to go. Can anyone confirm? Simply what I'm trying to do is create a way that solarwinds can send me an email when a device stops polling snmp or wmi.
3. Overloaded SAM. So with close to 300 sql's in appinisight for sql with about 2 to over 50 db's per server. It easily overloaded SAM in component count. What's a more efficient way to monitor sql? Suggestions welcomed.
4. Performance issues. This seems related to disk performance but I have no way to figure out what is the root cause.
5. data integrity in the database. I don't know how to run checks for integrity. and how to make sure I don't have corruption happening.
6. pollers all hanging due to collector and business layer peaking cpu and ram.
These are the top six pressing issues. Any help welcomed.

Setting up an Alert for a Windows Event Log Event
I am trying to setup an alert that will check a Windows event log for the term Metaframe and send out an email alert when it comes up. This is for licensing service for Citrix - I have found bits and pieces on how to set this up but not a complete list of how to get this setup from start to completion. Any hints, suggestions, or a link on how to do this would be great. Thanks!

Unsupported namespace SOAP error when adding a VMWare esxi host
Anyone else seeing an issue with adding VMWare 6.5 nodes on NPM v11 and using the VMWare polling option? I got this error when I tried to add a new server.
Error while connecting to VMware device - Unsupported namespace "urn:vim2" in content of SOAP body while parsing SOAP body
Edit: I updated to Solarwinds NPM v12 hoping that it would correct the issue. It didn't. It fails the credentials test when trying to edit the node.

Custom ASPX resources in NPM 12
So I have been using several custom resources I created over the years (earlier versions of NPM) and tried to add them to NPM 12.0 but it seems that everytime you run the configuration wizard for the web it wipes them out.
I assume this is now normal behavior however are we no longer allowed to use custom ASPX resources in 12?

What method can I use to have Solarwinds NPM/NCM show me the output of "show license in-use" for only my Cisco 4510's?
I want to report on the output of the "show license in-use" command only my Cisco 4510's so I can find which ones are using an Enterprise License, or Advanced, or IP Base, and I thought I knew how to build a report to do it. But I can't seem to get it working so far, and I'm reaching out to the Thwack community for some expert advice.
First I want to only run this against the Machine Type "Cisco Catalyst 4510R+E".
Second, I want the output of the "show license in-use" command.
That's all. So simple. And I just can't quite figure out how to make it run. Can you help me out with some advice, some baby-step commands?
The output of a the "show license in-use" command looks like this:
(Node Name) show license in-use
License Store: Primary License Storage
StoreIndex: 1 Feature: entservices Version: 1.0
License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Medium
License Store: Dynamic License Storage
I thought the process of getting this information would be as follows:
- Admin > Alerts & Reports > Manage Reports > Create New Report
- Put in the pretty stuff (Report title, etc.)
- Select Custom Table (Is this where I went wrong? Should I have selected something else? Maybe "Custom Query"? That option doesn't seem to get me the ability to only report on the 4510's, and leave me confused again.)
- Selection Method: Specific Objects (static selection)
- Group by Machine Type
- Put a check in the Cisco Catalyst 4510R+E group
- Click Add to Layout
- Table Layout > Add Column
- I can select from a wide range of option, and obviously I want the nodes' names, but I don't see any option yet for entering in the Custom SWQL query for inclusion in the table. I select System Name and Node name and Submit.
And there's where I'm stuck. This generates a report of 4510 nodes' names, but there's nowhere to run a custom Query and see the output.
Is what I want to do possible? I'm hoping to get the attention of some Thwack members with history generating SWQL reports that are filtered to only include this specific Machine Type. I'm wondering if some certain Thwacksters have interest & time to point out where I'm messing up (folks like sqlrockstar or adatole or aLTeReGo, or maybe someone they'd care to point me to?)
I'm looking to see only 4510's, and see the output of something like this:
SELECT NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.IPAddress, NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.SysName, NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.MachineType, NT.DeviceOutput
FROM NCM.TransferResults NT
WHERE (RequestedScript LIKE 'show license in-use%')
I'm missing some basic Report-building skill, and I don't know where to turn. Can you offer advice?

Create Cisco licensing report (show license)
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to create a licensing report for all of our ASAs. Same as if I'd run 'show license' on each one of them. Is there anyone here that knows an easy way to provide this type of report?

Can we alert for SNMP not responding nodes?
Hi all,
I searched about this topic but all are very old so wanna know if we can alert for nodes which are not responding to SNMP.
I have only 5-6 nodes for which alerting is required.
So can anyone help me on this?
We actually had an issue for some devices where they were found in hung state and they had reboot the device to bring to normal. So according to me setting up non responsiveness to SNMP will atleast meet this requirement.

discrepancy transmit receive on interfaces
peeps,
i am seeing the folllowing on one of my managed devices. I am trying to get my head around why the receive is at 44% and transmit is at 81%. this router only has 2 interfaces; ingress and egress.
so apart from maybe some netflow traffic and snmp traffic, i would expect ingress receive to be the same as egress transmit. the bandwidth speeds in NPM are 100Mbs ingress and egress. so what could be causing this difference?

Agent monitoring brings me endless headaches.
Pain points:
1. Agents causing certain monitored servers to spike in CPU and others in ram and some spike in both. On NPM version 12.2 .. Can't for the life of me figure out why?
2. Agents causing problems with pollers. job engine spiking. Collectors crashing. And ephemeral port spike. How much agents per poller can the pollers handle? Am I overloading my system?
3. On my DMZ servers I can't get anything to work. Even less with agents. Even if manually installed I can't get them to communicate with host. Should I place a poller in the DMZ to make this happen?
4. Moving devices from poller to poller I'm having to manually go into manage agent and move the devices to a different poller manually.
5. 2003 servers are a pain to monitor no matter which way you choose. Even with agents they still like to be problem child's. Have issues trying to figure out good way to monitor these servers. Is agent the way to go?
Just the top 5 pressing issues. Help would be appreciated thanks.

Using F5 to load balance Orion
Has anyone had success load balancing Orion using F5 BigIP 11.1 or newer? We are getting "Enable cookies to login" in IE when going through an F5 load balancer. We have a netscaler VIP that works fine and going to the web servers works fine, just the F5 VIP that's not working.
I'm not looking for someone to tell me how to change my cookie settings in IE, looking for a global fix if anyone has run across this problem...

i am just wondering again has anyone tried with SQLaaS or PaaS for either SQL database or the front end 'Orion'? i understand VMAN appliance inst support in cloud deployments, this is more for NPM and SQL.
i have configured IaaS in Azure with both SQL and front end with no problems but i would like to see the communities approach to other Azure Services and any gotchas?

Permissions
Hi,
We have, probably not uniquely, a need to have a range of access to our Solarwinds setup.
For NPM we need to create various levels of users / access and wondering if this is feasible?
Level 1: Access to all
Level 2: Access to all but the backend steup of Solarwinds
Level 3: Read-Only access to all areas but also have a R/W access to a subset of groups in NPM
Level 4: Read Only access
Level 5: client read only access to one specific group
Level's 1, 2, 4 & 5 shouldn't be hard to sort, as I understand things, but it's the level 3 access that is a head scratcher and maybe we'll just have to re-think our approach. The reasoniing behind this, is that we want to let project engineers do their own discoveries, map them, etc, etc but not move those maps / groups / folders into live client areas until they are ready and sanitised by a 2nd person.
Thoughts? Is the above possible or will we just have to go the route of creating additional users for teh prupose of r/w access for those that also need that and then just use auditing to keep an eye and tell them off where necessary?

Cisco Stackwise virtual
We just setup a new stackwise virtual stack on catalyst 9500.
Everything looks good but solarwinds complains that the stack data ring is only half redundant.
I have 2 links in the stack so there is redundancy. Is this just solarwinds complaining because its a newer technology and solarwinds doesnt work with it 100% or did I configure something wrong?

Correct MIB definition for HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module
I setup in NPM a VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module to monitor. However, it does show up a large part of the information but the transmit/receive stats are very low. I am wondering if the correct MIB definition is being used. The HP part number is 571956-B21.
