SNMP V2C to V3 migration discussion

I have more that 800+ nodes in my network which includes switches, routers, firewall, MDS and WAE currently being monitored with V1/V2C which we are planning to migrate to snmp V3.

Currently we have separate RO/RW community string for individual cisco species which we plan to replace with one RO/RW username while migrating to SNMP V3.

1: I know there is slight difference in configuration between switch-router, firewall, WAE and MDS. Would appreciate if some one can summarize the difference in configuration with examples in this discussion.

2: We want to retain the default view with added authentication using V3 so we are no planning to change the view.

3: I have one switch that have V2C and V3 simultaneously configured without any documentation as in why V3 was configured. How to find if the we are polling with V3 or V2C.

4: I would also like to know if migration from V2C to V3 will retain all the historical data about the nodes being polled.

5: Are there any other pitfalls in this migration that can be avoided.

Thanks,
