Community,
We are looking for a way to add additional alerting capabilities on top of what we already have. After hours, we have an answering service that handles calls directly into our NOC. However, when it comes to alerts from NPM, they are currently email-based (regular email and email to text message). The NOC Staff is typically not awoken in the middle of the night by an email alert, however, they will always be awoken by a phone call. I am trying to find out if anyone has come up with a solution (OpenSource or not; doesn't really matter at this point) that provides the capability for a phone call to occur if an alert of specific criteria were to trigger. Our current SolarWinds setup is 6 pollers, 2 web servers and 2 DB servers (all running the latest version of NPM) so obviously, adding a modem to all 6 pollers would not be ideal, however, if that is the only solution, then so be it. I was thinking more along the lines of a separate system that maybe someone has found and/or implemented that will receive alerts via SMTP from Orion and if the alert meets a specific criteria, then initiates a phone call (not to a pager but to an actual phone...maybe something that does text to speech translation OR just has a pre-recorded canned message that is read/said to the person on the other end of the phone). Any suggestions, thoughts, comments, etc. would be extremely appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
Sincerely,
Carey
