First a quick background. I've used Orion extensively over the last 6 years. I've recently moved to a new company and have the chance to deploy Orion from the ground up. There are a few things I know I'll do different this time around but that led me to this post.
The dilemma - One of the decisions I still can't justify fully is using SNMP or WMI to poll windows servers. We currently have a mix of 2003 / 2008 / 2008 R2 / 2012 and 2012 R2. Should we use SNMP for the older servers and WMI for the 2012 / 2012 R2 servers? Should we stick with SNMP even though MS says it's done supporting it?
I'm familiar with most of the pros and cons of each, but a recent discussion thread here CPU alerts - Top 10 processes display stats post failure led me to ponder this decision again. I am hoping users with large deployments and product managers can shed some additional light and put my mind at ease. I thought another poll on the subject might be interesting as well, so feel free to vote your choice as well Orion Polling - SNMP vs WMI
