Hello Everyone,
Currently, we have our Statistics Collection interval set to 15 minutes. This was set when we initially went live at the end of last year, though I am not sure how this time frame was determined. With some recent issues, I have determined that we might benefit from having our interval set to a shorter amount of time. Currently, I am contemplating reducing our interval to 10 minutes, or perhaps even 5 minutes, at least for Nodes. What I would like to know is whether I can expect to see drastic reductions in performance or some types of resource issues if this is done. Can anyone provide information on settings that they use, and the benefits/drawbacks of those settings? Some basic information on my environment is below. There is some variation on it (routers have lower intervals already), but for the most part, this is how it is set up.
For Most Nodes:
Polling Interval: 180 seconds
Statistics Collection: 15 minutes
Rediscovery Interval: 240 minutes.
Primary poller and 2 additional pollers
22169 elements
2074 nodes
17232 interfaces
2863 volumes
86784 pollers
Our environment is virtualized (VMware), but our pollers are Windows Server 2008 R2 (Datacenter, 64-bit), each with 8GB of RAM and 4 processors provisioned.
Our DB is MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (Standard, 64-bit) on a similar server.
If any more information is needed, let me know and I will provide. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
