Hi,

Need someone's help to find ArubaS2500-24P-US CPU and Memory OID and Cisco Nexus (N7K-C7010) BGP peeringOID.

We will use the Aruba OID for our CPU and memory reporting while the Nexus OID will be used for alerting.

Thanks in advance.

Firewall and ping echoe request

Hi,

I am new to Solarwinds. How NPM poll the device for status in case a firewall is turned on and ping request is disabled in inbound rules? Does it uses SNMP in that case?

Best,

UDT & Avaya/Nortel Switches

I've got several Avaya 4850GTS-PWR switches and UDT v3.2 with NPM 11.5 is only pulling User and IP information from default VLAN 1. Information from endpoints on other VLANs are not being displayed. Here is a snippet showing my information, 'rrivera' with IP 10.1.9.77, which is on VLAN 1 and none of the same info for the other endpoints.

I have run the UDT Compatibility checker and everything passes except 'cdpCacheTable' which is Cisco specific:

Anyone else having an issue? IS there a resolution or is this a "feature" waiting to be coded?

Tell us your "Unknown" devices!

Sometimes devices show up in Orion as "unknown".  Those devices need to be added to our SysObjectID database.  We know about lots of them, but we'd like to hear which items you need.

 We need:

SysObjectID (which you can find in Node Details) in System Manager.

Create maintenance window?

Is there a way to create a regular maintenance window for devices so that they are unmanaged/alerts suppressed during a regular period?

I know that one option is the unmanage utility to create a job and schedule it, but I was wondering if there was a way to do it via the web-ui, perhaps based on a property.

The idea is to have a regular window for severs so I can schedule updates in SCCM.

Node Details - Hardware Virtual and host

When you look at node details one of the items is hardware and for virtual guests it shows

Hardware Virtual, hosted by ESX01

I'd like to write a report that includes this information but i can't locate these fields in report writer.

Anyone know how to do this?

Copy A View Tab?

Does anyone know of a way to copy/duplicate a tab in a view, complete with the added resources? I may be missing something obvious, but haven't found a way to do this and it would save me TONS of time.

I'm building a view with multiple left navigation tabs, but find it extremely tedious to keep having to add all the resources, set column sizes, etc. every time I add a new one. I have over 60+ tabs to add and they all utilize the same exact resources, so it would be nice to just duplicate/copy an existing tab and then modify it.

I've figured out how to add a tab to the view via SQL, but it obviously doesn't include any of the resources I'd like to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Orion Hardware Heath occasionally reporting 'Other' senors as Unknown

$

Lately, Orion has started to report some switches as having 'Other' hardware with a status of Unknown.

For example, I will have a switch that has Hardware health monitored. Under hardware heath there are sensor groups. In 'Fan', I have a 'Fan Sensor' reporting as Good. In 'Power Supply' I have 4 Power Supply Sensors and 2 External Power Supply Sensors reporting as Good. In 'Temperature', I have an 'Over-temperature Sensor' reporting as good.

For some reason, Orion will suddenly decide that there is also an 'Other' grouping, with duplicates of all the existing sensors, all with a status of Unknown. I have tried to SNMP walk the MIBs to see if the switch is really reporting that, but it seems like Orion only ever gets one poll with this info, because next poll, it clears.

This is happening with several switches so I don't believe it is a single bad switch.

Has any seen this issue? I can provide more information if needed.

Cisco ASA as a Default gateway?

$

There has been over 1 million of Cisco ASAs built and deployed around the world in a past years (good job Cisco!). As not supporting SNMP protocol properly, they often complicate our lives when configured to be Default gateways, not allowing products like SolarWinds User Device Tracker to monitor what's behind. Do you use your ASAs as a Default gateways too? If so, what percentage of your network they route?

Problem polling Memory and CPU details from ESXi host

Hi Community;

We have recently deployed NPM and integrated it into our production vCenter environment.   After connecting to the vCenter server we then continued to add all the ESX hosts.  Now that we have completed this process It seems that only some of these hosts are reporting their memory and cpu details.  (See attached screenshot)      What would cause NPM to only collect some of this data?

Alert on UDP via OID?

I am trying to alert on conditions of the OID's

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.715.1.1.6.1.14

&

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.715.1.1.6.1.12

More specifically the first interval which would be

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.715.1.1.6.1.14.9027.1

&

1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.715.1.1.6.1.14.10027.1

Here is what I have written:

But this does not seem to catch anything or alert.

I can SNMPWALK the general OID and get values, as well as the more specific OID and get values, and they are values which aught to meet or exceed the conditions.

What am I doing wrong here?

After running the query on DB for defragmentation, Orion stopped working

HI All,

Yest i observed this. During the DB maintenance i see the messages being reported for high defragmentation, upto 90%. I did find a KB where it says to run a query on DB.

But after like 6 hours of running this on DB, Orion main poller started getting utilized almost 100% with CPU and mem and eventually the site was not accessible.

Later we disabled the query to resolve the issue. But i would like to why did this happen?

Telnet and SHH Report

Is there a report or an easy way to view what devices have telnet or ssh enabled? I am needing to go through 100 Cisco switches and disable telnet and enable ssh on them. I would like to find a way to script this so I don't have to do them one by one.

Thanks

Applying Orion Platform HotFix 5

Over the next few weeks I will be upgrading all of our SolarWinds products to the current versions.

Many of these products require the Orion Platform HotFix 5 after installation.

Do I need to reinstall the HotFix after I install each product upgrade?

For example, I will first be install NPM 11.5.2 followed by installing the required Orion Platform HotFix 5.

A week later I will be installing SAM 6.2.1, which also requires Orion Platform HotFix 5. Should I reinstall it again?

Last Database Update was a LONG time ago

We ran into the "last database update xx minutes ago" issue with our APE. It actually hasn't updated in more than a month. Fortunately this is not a production box so we have time to figure it out.

In the past we have fixed this issue by replacing job engine, tracker, polling controller, etc. The issue I am having is that "someone" deleted the polling controller blank.sdf. I tried running the config wizard to replace the files to no avail.

Any assistance in how to get a new 'blank' copy of job engines, polling controllers etc would be appreciated.

Monitoring Multiple Context's In NPM

$

I have this Cisco ACE 4710 that has 4 context's running on it.  We are currently running SNMPv3 so context's aren't really an issue.  The problem i'm having is in NPM I have the ACE device (LB1 - IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ) with no context field in it's snmp so I get basic system stats from the Admin Context.  I try to add another device (LB1-DMZ - IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) and it trashes (Original monitors get lost and the new one's are unknown.  to fix had to remove and re-add the device) the first instance even though I have named them differently.

Hopefully there is an easy soluton for this either being able to add mutliple SNMP polls to a single device (with different credentials because of the context field), or being able to add multiple devices (different names same IP).

I hope i'm missing something and this is possible.

Thanks ahead of time for the help.
