Autonomous AP Maps?

$

I know with LWAPP's we can create heat maps. Was just wondering if there is anything similar for heavy AP's?

I like how the node details shows signal strength of connected and historical clients, would there be a way to utilize that to put "average signal strength" in specific locations on a map?

Thanks!

Alert Manager- Alerts with variables?

Hello all,

I am a newbie so please go easy on me.

I have 60 ESXI hosts that I want to create alerts for and am really hoping I do not have to make a separate alert for each host.

My hostnames are as follows:

c01esxihost01

c02esxihost01

c03esxihost01.... all the way up to 62.

Here is what I have so far:

Is there anyway I could make it something like this:  Node Name is equal to c**esxi01

I do see the "starts with" option, it would be nice if there was an "ends with"..

Any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks,

Bmoore

Eaton UPS pollers

I have been trying to figure out how to poll the Eaton UPS to see battery levels, load, etc. I found the MIBs on their site, example

xupsOutputVoltage OBJECT-TYPE

SYNTAX INTEGER (0..2147483647)  -- UNITS RMS Volts

    ACCESS read-only

    STATUS mandatory

    DESCRIPTION

"The measured output voltage from the UPS metering in volts."

    ::= {xupsOutputEntry 2}

xupsOutputCurrent OBJECT-TYPE

SYNTAX INTEGER (0..2147483647)  -- UNITS RMS Amp

    ACCESS read-only

    STATUS mandatory

    DESCRIPTION

"The measured UPS output current in amps."

    ::= {xupsOutputEntry 3}

xupsOutputWatts OBJECT-TYPE

SYNTAX INTEGER (0..2147483647)  -- UNITS Watts

    ACCESS read-only

    STATUS mandatory

    DESCRIPTION

"The measured real output power in watts."

    ::= {xupsOutputEntry 4}

So how do I get Orion to use the correct poller so that I can see this information?   Do these mibs need to be added to the database?

Alerting Rules

Hi,

Got myself in a pickle over disk space alerting.

We have multiple groups that are responsible for their own devices (servers in this case), The groups work fine for controlling views but no good for alerting.

We have one "Systems" group that should get all alerts for disk space then another group need to get alerts for the same thing that are only relevant to them (if that makes sense)

So Group 1

Server001

Server002

Server003

Server004

Group2

Server002

Server004

I have 2 alerts configured 1 for Group1 and 1 for Group2 , both fire but the one for Group2 never shows the name of the device firing the alert.

I have included my alerts for review (be gentle with me)

Regards

Scott.

Why not track the signal strength of the fiber connection?

If I look at one of my (Cisco) switches, there is Health monitoring done by NPM. You know, power supplies, fans, temperatures and such. When I look at Other, there are several power sensors shown for fiber connections. While they are shown with a green heart and a dB value, only the green status is saved. Why not save the dB value of the strength instead? I notice things like the exact temperature are saved and not the "color of criticality", so why not be consistent and save the data for the fiber send and receive sensors?

How does advanced alert manager handle interface down alerts??

I had 2 devices (primary and back up) have the same interface go down on the same night this week during planned maintenance, I could see the syslog related to both interfaces going down in message centre and syslogviewer so I was happy with that but when I checked through message centre I could only see an event generated for one of the boxes on which the interface went down. I know my advanced alert is configured to generate an event when an interface goes down...

but my question is related to how this alert actually works, I want to know, will an event only be generated if the interface is down when the device is actually polled? I am polling these interfaces every 180 seconds. The interface for which I got the alert was down for about 30 minutes whereas the interface for which I did not get an alert was down for about 10 seconds so this has led me to believe advanced alert manager didn't alert on this interface going down because it had gone down and then back up in between polling cycles. My next question if advanced alert manager alerts if the interfaces status down when it polls every 180 seconds how come I didn't get about 10 events generated during that period or is advanced alert manager "advanced" enough to know that the interfaces status hasn't changed from down since it originally generated an event when it went down in the first place?

Polling Rate Limit in NPM

Good Day All,

I have been receiving a message on Network Performance Monitor that my polling rate limit has exceed it maximum rate. Currently its over 100%. I know it would affect the polling intervals as it automoatically changed to accommodate the rate but I wanted to find out how is this polling rate limit calculated. What is it calculated against to provide a percentage value? Is it software related or hardware related?

Down Access Points in NPM 11.5.x

Hi guys,

In pre 11.5.x environment, a simple query would show you which APs have disappeared from the monitored controllers.

SELECT ap.IPAddress, ap.DisplayName

FROM Orion.Wireless.AccessPoints ap

WHERE Status=2

That query no longer works in NPM 11.5.x. Any idea where I should be looking instead?

Setting up Alert

I'm trying to monitor a process that should always be running (on a Windows server). I've got a UDP setup to poll the Windows server and it returns a list of running processes.

Now I need to alarm on this whenever the service in question is not present in the UDP polling results.

I started off with a Custom SQL Alert (but I think I was trying to over complicate things). Can I use a rule for the Custom Node Poller with a "AND" with a "Contains" for the results? I've selected the specific UDP Assignment ID however how do I also setup a condition to match the UDP results?

Here are two screenshots where I'm stuck........

Website configuration failed

Hello,

When the ORION CONFIGURATION WIZARD finishes the procedures, he returns the following message: WEBSITE CONFIGURATION FAILED: WEB REQUEST FOR Orion/Login.aspx FAILED - THE REMOTE SERVER RETURNED AN ERROR: (500) INTERNAL SERVER ERROR.

The IIS error is: HTTP Error 500.19, HRESULT 0x8007007e

Server: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit

SQL: SQL server 2008 R2 version 10.52.4000.0

IIS: 7.5

On the same server(SERVER A) there are already two more sites installed using the same IIS.

We installed Orion NPM on a different server(SERVER B) with the same characteristics (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64bit) but with a fresh IIS installation and the whole setup competed successfully.

Is there any idea to overcome the problem and install Orion NPM on SERVER A?

Thank you.
