Need a little SQL help

$

My SQL is very rusty, been way too long since I last did queries in MySQL.  What I am looking to do is create a report based on a SQL query for response times(or other columns) for certain node ID's.

So I did a

SELECT * FROM [dbo].[NodesData] WHERE NodesData.Caption LIKE '%XA-%'

This gave me a list of the nodes I want to query, now I need to take those node ID's and match them to the ResponseTime column in the Node Statistics table, and that is where I get lost.  I haven't done a multi table query is so long that it is all gobbly to me again.

Emailed scheduled report only shows login screen

I have two reports I have Orion run on Monday morning, and I received my first report today, all it has it the login screen.  What would be the reason for that? If I run it manually and have it email me, it is the report I am looking for, without the login screen.

Orion 2016.2 high availability.

Good afternoon.

I have been looking at two applications for a DR solution.  One is the failover environment and the other is something very similar: High availability.  I have been doing some research on this and have some questions on users that have this:

As you can see from the diagram below, I would like the environment to look as such, so that if the environment fails over, we still have data going to a badkup SQL server.  But I am wondering (while speaking to solarwinds right now) Will the database failover too, or will it stay in the primary site?

Any information (While I continue to search) would be appreciated.

The User Experience group wants to see how you've customized your Orion to create your own NOC view, or NOC views you like and are using from other products.  What do you like about your NOC view? What challenges, frustrations or issues do you have with it?--Show us your NOC view either here OR email it directly to me at kellie.mecham@solarwinds.com and share your NOC view stories by August 10 and we'll award you 500 thwack points for sharing.

Node Management - Remove Node Actions

Hi all,

I have done this before a number of years ago, but for the life I can't remember how. I would like to remove the 'Reboot', 'Service Control Manager' 'Real-Time Process Explorer' and others from the node management snap-in of the node summary page. I have looked through the GUI and Thwack but I can't find my answers. I'm running version 11.5.3

Thanks

Alerting on bgp state

Sorry for being such a newbie when it comes to this, I've had about a week of looking at SolarWinds and it's all a blur.

I have this box (Tabular Universal Device Poller) which gives me all my bgp neighbor IPs and their current state.  See image: http://i33.tinypic.com/2d94bp3.jpg

I would like to setup alerting so it will email  me whenever any of those goes 'Idle'

Is this something SolarWinds can do?

Anyone customize their Event color codes?

See attached screenshot, example of Event Summary, Last 7 Days.

The event background colors are controlled via an Events.css file located in the IIS web root directory.  There is an additional "Events.css" found in /Orion/Styles/, but that one does not appear to be used.  Each event has a number code associated to it.  For example, an "Alert Triggered" is Event 5000.  "Alert Reset" is event 5001.  The background colors of events have never really appealed to me, short of the DOWN, UP, and Managed colors.  Has anyone customized their event backgrounds?  If so, mind sharing what choices you went with?  I've been tinkering around and can't seem to make up my mind.

Database maintenance stuck

I  received an error stating database maintenance was overdue. When I run the task from my Orion server it gets stuck at "Removing older data from Traps"

Is there a sql query I can run to do this manually?

Reporting on subinterface utilization

I am trying to come up with a way to create a graph that shows the utilization of an overall LAG and its subinterfaces. Orion is able to poll all of the subinterfaces just fine, but there doesnt seem to be any grouping of those subinterfaces to a LAG. The only real way I can tell it is a subinterface is that its type is Layer 2 virtual LAN while the LAG is a Link aggregator.

The piece of equipment is a Fortinet firewall and I believe the model is a fgt3240c. Any ideas would be appreciated. It seems Ive hit, for lack of a better term, writers block.

SolarWinds.InformationService.ServiceV3.exe - Railing a single processor?

$

I've started to notice that some of our alerts periodically fail to translate variables in some cases.  This is usually caused by a misconfigured alert, but recently I noticed it happening on long-standing alerts that generally work.  In this specific case, it is a random occurrence.  In the past few days we generated 142 alerts for this particular configuration and 4 of the 142 failed to translate the variables.  While not a huge number, it does mean that 2.8% of those particular alerts didn't work.  That's a high failure rate in a business where the only thing that matters is people trusting their alerting!

So I went digging.  For context, we run a single instance SolarWinds environment with 17 additional polling engines across 3 data centers with almost 98K elements and 22K application monitors.  We have VMAN integrated and have deployed SRM alongside a lightly used NTA.  Now I know that the alerting service is SolarWinds.Alerting.Service.exe and Process Explorer says that is is using about 3% of my total CPU on my 8 vCPU.  I also know that my processor queue length runs at about 5 for this server and that most of my CPUs are about 60% utilized at any given time.

Except for processor 2 (or in SolarWinds, processor 3!).

From the screenshot below you can see that SolarWinds.InformationService.ServiceV3.exe is railing this processor.  All the time.  (See screenshots below)

The SWISv3 exe is 2015.1.1.6134.  No, I am not running NPM v12 yet.

Is anyone else seeing similar behaviour on this executable?  Anyone else noticing problems with interpreting variables where this service is railing a processor?  This SWISv3 service consumes far and away the most amount of CPU time of any service on our primary poller. At the time of this posting, SWISv3 had consumed 65 hours of CPU time.  The next closest was our Splunk agent (31 hours) and the next closest SolarWinds process was a BusinessLayerHost that was 4.5 hours.

Upgrade Buddy Tool missing?

Hi,

I'm in the process of upgrading to NPM 12 and I noticed the Upgrade Buddy Tool was not in my NPM 11.5.3 or NPM 12.0 zip files.

I located a direct download of the zip file, but after completing the 11.5.3 upgrade, the tool has stopped working and is throwing a SQL exception.

Is the tool still supported?  Is there a new version?  The upgrade guide mentions it, but I can't find it anywhere.  NPM Upgrade Guide - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support

Thanks!

NPM issues on solarwinds environment.

Good afternoon (t)whackers

I have been building a test environment.  The purpose of this environment is for the following objectives:

- To understand and implement a new solarwinds install.

     - This includes a clustered instance of SQL

- To test the following applications:

     - LEM

     - Failover environment.

There are other things I know I need to include, but the late nights have taken their toll and my brain is cloudy today.  But to surmise, I want to know how to install and implement a new solarwinds server because of the following (I am also seeking advice on this, so any advice would be appreciated.)

- We have about 2000 + vms/physical servers on a single server with solarwinds installed. (windows 2k8, 12gb ram NPM 11.5)  I want to install 12 and start a fresh.  Now, in my unbiased opinion, that are some things which are really good about it, but there are other things that are really bad.  This is why I am unsure if it is feasible to either start again, or migrate all of the data.

- The SQL is on a separate server   (windows 2k8, 8gb RAM)

- We use the following Orion applications:

   - SAM

   - WPM

   - IPAM

   - IVIM

   - DPA

   - NTA

When I try to add a node in my solarwinds test environment I am met with the follow error (please see picture) so, I am wondering what I am doing wrong.  It is fine in the old, live environment, but in the test it fails on the validation.  I know it's not the community string as they were copied.

It is either an issue with adding the node to two solarwinds, or something that I did in the config.

Any help would be appreciated.

SolarWinds Failover Option With FoE at a Different Site with Different IP

$

Hi Guys,

I am just hoping to get some feedback on Failover option whereby FoE is located in different physical location with different IP address. I went through documentation (link below) and would really appreciate your help on the below:

1. Is anyone able to elaborate in simple terms on steps involved to Failover and where does this public IP fits in (as per screenshot below it says public IP is 192.168.1.5 but on the image itself it is not shown)?

page 14, quote:

When configured for Disaster Recovery (DR) to a remote site with a different subnet, SolarWinds Failover Engine must be configured to use a different Principal (Public) IP address for the primary and secondary servers. When a switchover is performed, the DNS server will be updated to redirect users to the new active server at the DR site. <..> SolarWinds Failover Engine uses DNS Update task to update Microsoft Windows 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, and 2012 DNS servers with the new Principal (Public) IP address.

2. Some nodes will be sending Traps, SysLogs and NetFlow to Poller's IP at the main site. What would be our possible options for redirecting this traffic to another site without having to update config on each of them in the event of failover?

3. And last one... What are ways to ensure high availability for NetFlow database. With SQL database it is all pretty clear (mirror, logs shipping, cluster, etc), but how do I ensure failover of NetFlow Database AND what steps will be necessary to actually fail it over in the event of disaster?

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks a lot

Alex

Sometimes devices show up in Orion as "unknown".  Those devices need to be added to our SysObjectID database.  We know about lots of them, but we'd like to hear which items you need.

 We need:

SysObjectID (which you can find in Node Details) in System Manager.
