No volume size for windows server node

$

0

Hey everyone,

I have a problem with one of our windows server nodes. The node doesn't show any volumes sizes although the volumes are all up.

(descriptions in german)

I already deleted the node and re-added it.

The node is managed via snmp, which also connects succesfully (testing the snmp community string).

I can't figure out what's the problem.

Does anyone have an idea?

Regards

Stefan

edit: switching to WMI polling shows all the volume informations. However I need to monitor this node via SNMP.

Manual Creation of Tickets in ServiceNow by hitting Acknowledge in Solarwinds

So after being told by one of Solarwinds Account Manager along with his SE, it looks like my ever-curious self is willing to give this challenge a try.

First, I had to install and import SWIS powershell into my machine. After making sure it is working properly by checking its connection back to the Orion server,

I tried a few lines and commands. Everything was working perfectly until a ran into this:

Source entity [Orion.SNI_AlertIncidents] not found in catalog

So, my question is, is there any way that this particular table be added into the SWIS catalog?

I am really hoping there is, so it makes it much easier for me to play around the Acknowledgement button controlling the creation of tickets in ServiceNow. And if there is nothing else that I can do, then it might just boil down to me doing it the SQL way. But I hope someone could point me to the right direction first.

How to add a Server using port number 722

Hi All,

We have been receiving requests to add the Linux servers using port 722. The port is opened on the server. But, while trying to add the server using Linux agent, it is failing.

Can we add a Linux/Cent OS server using a port number in Solarwinds (through Add Node).

Also, how to add a server using a particular agent flavor (Cent OS, Linux, Solaris, etc.) while adding a Linux server?

Potential ServiceNow Integration Bug Case # - 00162702

$

Currently, our ServiceNow SolarWinds integration is functioning to an extent but there is one major issue with it.

It changes State values in most cases as it should but I've been able to replicate our issue by doing the following

I bring node down, creates an incident if there isn't one

I bring Node back up, sets incident state to monitoring

I bring the Node back down, sets incident state to active

I bring Node back up, sets incident state to monitoring

Everything is functioning fine up until this point

So lets say we have verified functionality and their monitoring period is up

I set the incident state to resolved (value 6) within ServiceNow

I bring the Node back down, it sends over work notes but it does not send a state value with it

the payload within the Incident Integrations module shows

{"sys_id":"<incident sys_id>","work_notes":"Orion alert has been reactivated."}

with <incident sys_id> being the incidents sys id

I figured that it might be an issue with the orion integration account not being able to update incidents in a resolved state

to test it, i attempt to bring the node back up, it changes the state just fine on over to monitoring

I figure maybe its an issue with solarwinds attempting to update state immediately following someone manually updating state on the incident (maybe it throws it into an acknowledged state and following that, it doesnt update state)

Made sure that Do not execute this action if the alert has been acknowledged already (Recommended) was unchecked so that it will continue to update the incident following (even though it seems to update fine on node going back up using the same action)

Attempted to see if I could get it to change state from resolved immediately following manual resolve using same action

Brought node down, sets state to active

Manually change state to resolved in ServiceNow

Brought node back up, sets state to Monitoring successfully

Issue is with Reopen state specifically following a manual change within ServiceNow to Resolved

Reopen state works otherwise and if i bring node back up and back down, it will set state normally.

It is only immediately following doing a manual update changing the state to resolved that it does not send over an updated state value

I had thought that maybe it could be the Acknowledge State that is playing with it a bit but i set the Acknowledge State to active from resolved and was still getting the exact same issues

I ran a search within the incident integrations module to see if it ever was able to update the state from resolved to something else using that same action

query goes something like this

comment contains state: "6"

comment does not contain incident_state: "6"

payload contains Orion alert has been reactivated

I get 10 results but these are for things running different actions

In the actions, instead of setting incidents to monitoring, they set them to resolved when node goes back up

When they go back down, it is updating to active just fine meaning that its not an issue going from resolved to active using the Reopen state field

So the issue is narrowed down to,

following a manual modification of the state field, Reopen state fails to include state key value pair in the message it sends to update the incidents state

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated with this issue!

We opened a case number with support a few weeks back and recently, they suggested posting here for assistance along with including the case number

This is a huge issue because when nodes go back down following being resolved, no one is being notified because the state is not changing back to active

NPM 12.3

  • We current have 2 silos.  The total element count is around 110K
  • We are running NPM 12.1 on both silos.
  • We are glad to see the 400,000 element limit on 12.3.  Our plan is to consolidate our silos.

  • What experience does anyone having pushing to the 400k limit and has anyone seen any bugs with 12.3?

  • Our current SQL databases are 16CPU/128GB or RAM.

db's are 718,000MB and 900,000MB.

Thanks in advance.

Removing old OSPF routing neighbors from a node

I love the new routing monitoring feature in 10.5, including the routing neighbor status, but I'm wondering if there's a way to remove old routing neighbors from the list?  I made some topology changes in my network today, and some of the neighbor relationships that are no longer valid are still appearing in the "Routing Neighbors" resource with a status of "Not available."     I tried removing and readding routing monitoring from the node, but that did not clear out the table.

Thanks,

Brandon

Reports - Email Action - HTML

When exporting a report and using the email action for an export as HTML, It looks like all the associated Style Sheets are being sent along with it. This is recent to 12.2 NPM, in 12.1 NPM they weren't being sent along.

Anyone else seeing this? I noticed it because the increase of the email size rose from 66kb to 2mb suddenly. While there's nothing breaking with this, it doesn't seem to be the function intended.

Integration with PagerDuty

PagerDuty has developed and provided a very nice integration guide for SolarWinds.

However, in my experience, it goes a little too far by requiring extra custom properties and VB script execution via scheduled task in order to post the JSON payloads to the PagerDuty site. Below are a couple of examples you can use with the HTTP POST action from the web alert engine. Just post these messages as the payload to https://events.pagerduty.com/generic/2010-04-15/create_event.json

ALERT TRIGGER:

{

  "_comment": "https://events.pagerduty.com/generic/2010-04-15/create_event.json",

  "service_key": "ENTER CLIENT'S SERVICE KEY FROM PAGERDUTY HERE",

  "incident_key": "THIS IS THE STRING FOR YOUR INCIDENT TITLE",

  "event_type": "trigger",

  "description": "THIS IS THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE DETAILS",

  "client": "SolarWinds",

  "client_url": "THIS IS WHERE YOU CAN PUT A DETAILS URL BACK TO SOLARWINDS",

}

ALERT RESET:

{

  "_comment": "https://events.pagerduty.com/generic/2010-04-15/create_event.json",

  "service_key": "ENTER CLIENT'S SERVICE KEY FROM PAGERDUTY HERE",

  "incident_key": "INCIDENT TITLE MUST MATCH THE TRIGGER EXACTLY",

  "event_type": "resolve",

  "description": "THIS IS THE BODY OF YOUR MESSAGE DETAILS"

}

Enjoy!

Display DHCP scope for particular node (router)

Is there a way to associate the DHCP scope for a specific router in NPM?

We do not run DHCP server on the routers, (its on windows) but since NPM knows the subnets and IP addresses on the router, perhaps we could correlate to the proper scope for that location. Has anyone done it?

(I hope this makes sense)

Thanks,

Melvin

NPM 12.2 - UI Perfomance

Using 12.2 Latest HF and the performance is horrible in the UI. I use many enterprise apps with web front ends that handle lots of nodes/data and they seems to be able to render much more quickly than seemly trivial pages in NPM. For example, the 'All settings' page regularly takes 3-5 seconds to load. This is slow as it should be just text based html. I've been looking at it with chrome dev tools and lighthouse and its seems the Javascript and general caching is not optimized at all, For example, this near 1 MB javascript library seems to be being repeatedly downloaded:

This also has the header no-cache on it.

I've a support ticket open and its been indicated to me that this is a known issue.

Real Time Process Explorer Error

I tried to bring up the Real Time Process Explorer and I'm getting an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  I have tried this on other nodes and it is the same error. These are SNMP polled nodes that worked last time I brought up the explorer  Any ideas on what I can do to get it working again? Which log file could I look at to see what the issue is?
