What is up with Solarwinds Network Automation Manager (NAM)?
Sorry if this isn't the right area for this discussion. During Thwack camp this year I saw Network Automation Manager mentioned quite a few times, so I decided to look it up and try to get some more information on it.
I've go an extensive global deployment with instances installed in Americas, Europe, and Asia. I'm currently running: NPM, NTA, NCM, SAM, and VNQM. Are there any differences with NAM, or is it really the same base products? I've got 13 APEs, will they be able to work with NAM in this way?
Anyone know if the pricing model is different? I also noticed that SAM was missing from it, but did see it as an optional add-on.
I'd like to talk about it with some people already using it.

WorldMap nodes in Kansas
Does anyone know how to address the issue where a large portion of my nodes are auto mapping in Kansas? I realize this is occurring because it's the considered the center of the US for addresses that can't be located. Some of the addresses had syntax issues so I can change them and they correct themselves, however, a large group of them have been checked against mapquest.com for errors and there is no problem. I have determined Suite/Unit/Building numbers will work at mapquest.com, but not in solarwinds. Is there a a better URL to check my addresses against so I am following the same process solarwinds uses? Here is an example of one mapquest returns and solarwinds cannot: 538 US Highway 36, Byers, CO 80103

Remove or hide Alert/Reports drop down menu from views
I'm running NPM 12.0.1 and have a request to create an IPAM read-only view for users based on an AD group.
I've tried to lock this down as much as possible by changing permissions to either None or hidden, but despite this I still end up with users being able to review current Alerts and Reports. Selecting No for Show Alerts Menu or Reports Menu seems to do nothing, as the user is still able to see those menus:
Is there any way to remove those entirely and just have the user have a "My Dashboards" drop down? We want this as isolated as possible.

Why am I unable to delete an SNMPv3 credential from NPM 12.2 HF3?
NPM knows about a number of SNMPv3 credentials that have been retired over time. I've tried to delete them by going to Admin > Credentials > Manage SNMPv3 Credentials, selecting one or more obsolete credentials, and then clicking "Delete".
The screen doesn't refresh, the deleted credentials are still present, even after reloading the page.
Ideas to get rid of them?

Node is Up. Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Unknown.
We'd previously been using a different tool to monitor the hardware status of our network devices but are in the process of migrating that function to Solarwinds NPM. Out of the ~1k nodes that we currently have onboarded into Solarwinds, just shy of 1/2 of those are showing an overall hardware status of "Node is Up. Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Unknown." All of the nodes showing an "Unknown" hardware status are showing valid CPU, memory and interface utilization information. The vendor name (Cisco) and model are also recognized.
I have read through a number of posts with similar topics and have tried all of the suggestions that I could find but nothing thus far seems to have helped. There doesn't seem to be a common theme among the devices that are showing in an unknown state. So far only deleting and re-adding the nodes to Solarwinds seems to resolve the issue (which isn't practical given the number of devices involved and the loss of historical data). Below are some of the things that I have tried.
- Rediscovered the device
- Repolled the device
- Verified that the SNMP community string passes the test in node settings
- Verified that the OID is viewable via the MIB browser
- Compared the SNMP configuration against known working devices of the same model & IOS version
- Compared the node configuration in Solarwinds against known working devices of the same model & IOS version
- Restarted services on all pollers
- Changed the Hardware Health Polling Method from "Use global setting" to "CISCO-ENVMON-MIB" (The default is set to CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB) for the node
- Installed the most current set of MIBs from the Customer Portal (restarted services after install)
- Verified that the MSMQ directrory wasn't >1GB
- Deleted and re-added the node in Solarwinds <--- This is the only step that I have found which resolves the issue thus far.

Monitor Access Points from Controller
I want to monitor access points from the controller.i can retrieve the values from the table via snmp. to see the values, I created two UnDP (AP name and AP status). The two UnDP access the same table.
then I created the alert with "Custom Table Poller Current Status"
this only monitors for status. therefore, I only see the status if the ap is disconnect but not the name of the ap. how can I adjust so that i can also see the name of the ap?

Is it possible to have a perfect storm of issues?
So I have several pain points and I was curious to know if anyone has seen worst? Or if anyone has tips, tricks, advice, help, etc..that will be well appreciated as well!
1. The case of the orphaned phantom service. 4 of our additional pollers decided that it no longer wanted to consider one of the business layer processes valid. The process does run and is started on every reboot. Force kill doesn't work, says PID is invalid. Through task manager says access denied. And it's evident that it's running as it's locking files. We know this because on these 4 pollers, configuration wizard will not run. And permissions are correct as confirmed by permissions checker and verified manually. Head scratcher isn't?
2. Primary poller randomly opening 12k plus WMI connections to whois.iana.org. weird, why do it through wmi? why is whois needed? Why not reach local dns, etc. Lots of why's. And no answers.
3. Agent communication randomly dropping out. A poller will show a server up. Show data, but it's obsolete. Agent says connected and is green. Agent restart command works. still green. Yet list resources hangs forever. And poll no won't return new data. Poller reboot all of a sudden syncs the agents back on and we are flooded with servers showing reboot alerts and properly showing data.
4. Site rendering some weirdness. On the login page we see a space at the top of the page and randomly that space will show a button with something regarding widget setup???? Ummmm, I'm confused. Then different sections of the site will randomly show errors. Configuration wizard is clean on primary and site has been rebuilt at least 30 times already with the same effect.
5. When database maintenance runs alot of connection timeouts to the database during the process. Can see the server, can ping the server, just can't continue to sql saying connection timed out waiting response. Because of this we have frequent pollers failures among issues with data consistency and accuracy. DB was built with all solarwinds recommendations and than some more. Has a 10gig network pipe and fastest storage we have available in our infrastructure.
6. IPAM is a complete mess. Unusable.
7. Alerts work weirdly. You clear one alert the system automatically clears every thing after it and retriggers everything. Alerts fail too.
8. Reports provide inaccurate information.
And I can go on and on and on and write till I reach character limits. The issues all seem compounding each other in that you fix one and create another 20 in the process. I'm almost convinced best thing is to drop everything and start fresh. But then question becomes how can we preserve current historical data?
So what do you think? could it get worst? and if not is there hope for a brighter day? hahaha.

- 3. It helps to reduce crime rate; when someone has a skill to trade, he misses the chances of engaging in anti-social behaviors.
- 4. It leads to self-employment and rapid industrialization.
- 5. It facilitates the process of nation-building and development.
- 6. One saves money to cater for urgent needs and family matters.
- 7. It enables one to consider vital tenets and societal values and committing oneself to worthwhile values.
Hindrances to Youth Empowerment
There are factors that contribute to hindering youth empowerment projects. These include the following.
Inconsistency in Government Programmes: lack of consistency in programme implementation can be a problem to youth empowerment.
Leaders with good and well thought out empowerment programmes for the youths need to ensure that
- 1. These ideas are put into practice to help the youths participate actively in the development process.
- 2. Corruptive Tendency: Instructor and personnel in the youth empowerment establishment often collude with the youths to embezzle the fund meant for the programme.
UR OPINION, WHAT IS THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN ACHIEVING THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS?

Nowadays youth as active, energetic, creative and enthusiastic part of modern society play an important role in solving global problems. It’s easier for young people to communicate, to share their ideas openly and to accept new things. We have always been fascinated by dreams of the future. Dreams about better world without evil and hatred where everyone has his own place, where there are a lot of opportunities for development.
Thus this is one of the reasons why the Zazzau Youth Organization of Nigeria attaches great attention to young generation, giving us opportunities for the contribution towards global problems' solutions.
All SDGs are important and have a direct impact on our lives. At the same time, I would like to highlight the problem of accessibility and quality of education. Why does it seem special to me?
I live Nigeria- small developing Central African country. We have a quite long history and rich culture. However, the political, social and economic indicators are at low level. And if we talk about the reasons of such indicators, lack of education comes to mind first.
I'm writing this because I have learned how to write. I read an information about Samaru Kaduna State because I have learned how to read. I am familiar with the SDGs and the (ZYOON) work because I am a university student. I am able to communicate with other participants from different countries and cultures because I have learned English so have they. I am able to express my ideas because I have learned how to think analytically.
We all are able to solve global problems because we are educated.
There are so many problems in the world because of the lack of education, and narrow-mindedness. People never born with xenophobia, crime and violence in their blood. Children make you smile and smile themselves. Children are curious, pure and kind. We should learn from children.
In my opinion, we will be able to change the world around us when everyone will have access to «inclusive and quality education» as the (ZYOON) decides. Zazzau Youth Organization of Nigeria makes great efforts to implement the SDGs, but in my opinion it needs to work not only «from the top», but also «from the bottom» as the bottom maybe the root and the important key for the solution. For example conduct advocacy campaigns, support citizen activities and so on. It is a large area to work.
As the great Luther King said, "I have a dream". And I believe that one day it will be realized, and young people will play one of the main roles in this process.

Geeting an SQL error when trying to get a data from syslog table
Hi All, I am trying to create query on syslog and Nodes table to get the data for how many devices syslog are storing for specific device type from Custom properties .
Select IP, Message from syslog where NodeID IN ( Select NodeId from Nodes Where devicetype = 'typename')
but I am getting attached error and I can see that data is present for the customproperty.
Any help will be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Port Mode
Hi,
I am monitoring a variety of Cisco switches. I am using the current percent utilization of each interface widget on the node details page.
On some nodes it shows up what mode each port is in e.g. access or trunk and the assigned vlans to that port. But on other Cisco switches it does not show this information, is there something that I need to enable somewhere for this information to be displayed on all switches?

Can NPM be setup to monitor all switches in a stack?
Recently we had a switch member in a stack go down but Solarwinds showed the stack as up since the switch in question was not the one with the uplink to the data center. Can Network Performance Monitor be tweaked to alert on not only a stack as a whole but also individual switches within a stack? If so, how would this be done?

How much horsepower is your Orion App server running?
I started having a few issues with my Orion app server and just checking to see what others are running to see if maybe its a resource thing.
Started having hiccups last week when we started adding 70 Linux nodes via agent last week and that kind of coincides with some of the other issues. Server stopped functioning on Saturday afternoon and in VMWare the CPU use has been going up for for a year so this morning added 4 more CPUs this morning since the system was frozen. They are all running one VMWare and running on Cisco UCS and Nimble SANs.
