I would like to create a resource that I can display as a gauge showing the average CPU load across a selection of ESXi hosts. I have an SQL query that returns the name of the cluster and the average of the CPU load for all the ESXi hosts in that cluster. The query also returns the current time. I can't seem to find a way to display that data as a gauge - or a chart either. All I can create is a table using either Report Writer or the Web-based Report Writer. Is it possible? (NPM 11.5.2)
How do I create a gauge-able resource from a custom SQL query?
Network Sonar Discovery list missing subnets and schedules after 11.5.2 update
Yesterday I updated our NPM from 11.5.1 to 11.5.2 (as well as applied the "OrionPlatformv2015 1.2. HotFix1 "). Everything appears to be in working order except Network Sonar Discovery. We had manually entered a list of several subnets we wanted to discover bi-annually and had created specific staggered schedules for. As of today, we noticed several of the subnet entries are missing completely. My questions are this:
1) - Does anyone know where in the SQL DB this data is stored?
2) - Can I export this list prior to an NPM update in the future, so if it loses the list again, I have a restore point? I know there is a "Export to PDF" option for this list, but this is going to still entail a manual entry and audit of missing data...
Thanks,
-Danielle
Service Now Integration
Is there a way to automate Service Now CMDB integration, in order to populate and update the CMDB with Solarwinds?
I have dependencies set up, but child email alerts are still coming through
So I have several dependencies set up for field sites where it's:
Parent (Main Site Router)
Child:
- Site group containing a server, switch etc
In the event of high packet loss or high latency, shouldn't I only be getting the email alert if the main router is suffering from the problem?
Error loading groups
I was doing some maint. and deleting some custom properties that I no longer had in use. After this process I went back to my main NPM page summary which had an ALL GROUPS view sorted by Root Group which displayed some parent groups. App1 Health, App2 Health and child groups under need App1 Nodes, App1 Volumes, etc. If I go under SAM and click Applications > Summary I still see the child nodes however I can't access Groups. When I click Setting > Manage Group I get the attached error:
Groups Error
Error: A query to the Solarwinds Information Service failed.
After I click ok it loads but no way to see any groups, even the child groups I see in SAM.
SNMP on apcon ports
I'm trying to get SMNP to monitor the ports on an Apcon device via SNMP. The apcons have been discoverd with SNMP and the ethernet interfaces can be monitored but not the acual switch ports. I have checked and see that the MIB to allow this is part of the SolarWinds MIB database and the MIBS are also located on the Apcon. How do you make the connection between SolarWinds MIBS database and the Apcon ports. I have looked in the engineering tool set and nothing seems evident.
Error with Discovery Processing Results NPM 11.5.2
NOC titles
I have a 10 page NOC view that mainly focus on application templates and I want to cycle through for our staff. This works fine however running NPM 11.0.1 the title either with our without left pane navigation isn't very helpful. When I have the left pane enabled and they rotate every title for my 10 tabs is NOC - NOC. When I split them off into individual views I get NOC - Email - NOC, NOC - Citrix - NOC, NOC - VMware NOC, etc. I would like to get just a view that only displays NOC one time either before or after the application name. Is this something I can do or was it addressed in the latest version?
How to monitor MSTP link via NPM?
Hi All,
There are so many MSTP link between client's headquarter and their branch office. Recently they want to change monitor tool from BMC, so we have recommended them to try SolarWinds NPM+NTA. During the POC, NPM+NTA can help them monitor network devices status and application etc. However, the important point is that how to monitor MSTP link status. As we known, when the wan link down and the client's edge device is up, how to alert administrator to inform the wan link has issue and they need to notice MSTP provider to check?
Can we use ping script from solarwinds server or edge device(such as router) to ping continuously another end IP to confirm the mstp link status? Or is there something good way to check that?
"netstat" statistics
Hey everyone,
I am still learning solar winds and some questions have come up to me and I don't have the knowledge to answer them, so I am hoping someone on here as ran into this and can give some support.
Ok, one of the users wanted to know if :
Can SNMP monitoring of the CBM and the CMT gather “netstat” statistics?
Meaning:
netstat –an |grep 162
netstat -an | grep 10023
# netstat -an |grep 10023
- 172.25.15.7.10023 172.24.225.52.47763 5888 0 49232 0 FIN_WAIT_2

The other question is about expect script and can it be done:
I have a port we are trying to monitor (10023) and I have tried to set up a port monitor for it and it fails. I verified the port is correct, so here is the question from the ones who want it monitored.
What We're Working on for NPM (Updated July 28, 2015)
Since the release on NPM 11.5 we've been hard at working building the next round of exciting functionality and improvements in existing functionality. I'm excited to share the following list of items we're working on:
- Updated UI Look and Feel - The UI is receiving some love this release, spanning across NPM, SAM, VMAN, and the other Orion based products.
- Deep Visibility into F5 load balancers - Covering things like connection counts by VIP and server. NPM F5 info FEATURE REQUEST - F5 Load Balancers - Show Wide IP status, GTM Server List, etc - Case #448234
- Monitoring for Cisco Switch Stacks (3750, 3850, 2960S) - Covering things like stack master, stack ring health, enumerating members, tracking member changes, per member hardware health, and so on. Cisco Stack monitoring
- Syslog / Traps / search improvements - Search Enhancements
- Unmanage behavior improvements - Unmanage reason (like shutdown tracker in Windows 2008)Silence Alerts While Still MonitoringUnmanage reason (like shutdown tracker in Windows 2008)Show 'Unmanaged' durationSilence Alerts While Still Monitoring
- Manage Pollers improvements - map sysoid values to arbitrary text for node details properties. Unknown Devices: admin mapping of sysObjectID to Vendor and MachineType
- Enhancements to view restrictions
- QoE Transport-Layer Metrics
Ongoing Initiatives:
- Increased scalability per SolarWinds instance (target of 250k elements / instance)
- Improved performance and decreased resource load times via analysis with SolarWinds DPA
- Increased number of pollers possible per instance

Monitoring VLANs
How would I monitor VLAN status (up/down) within NPM or NTA?
Need to search historical data for custom poller
I can pull current load metrics on my unix boxes with this sort of search. I need to pull the same sort of thing for the last 24 hours. Can someone point me in the right direction on where I should be looking?
SELECT DISTINCT CustomPollerAssignmentView.CustomPollerAssignmentID AS NetObjectID, CustomPollerAssignmentView.AssignmentName AS Name
FROM ((CustomPollerStatus INNER JOIN CustomPollerAssignmentView ON (CustomPollerStatus.CustomPollerAssignmentID = CustomPollerAssignmentView.CustomPollerAssignmentID)) LEFT OUTER JOIN CustomPollers ON (CustomPollerAssignmentView.CustomPollerID = CustomPollers.CustomPollerID)) INNER JOIN Nodes ON (CustomPollerAssignmentView.NodeID = Nodes.NodeID)
WHERE
(
(Nodes.Caption LIKE '%theHostnameOfMyComputers%') AND
(CustomPollers."OID" = '1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1.3') AND
(CustomPollerStatus."RowID" = '3') AND
(CustomPollerStatus.Status > '0.01')
)
AND
(
(InterfaceID = 0)
)
;
I hope I'm posting in the right forum. If not, tell me where to go and I'll move aside.
Thanks,
Dan
EDIT
Seems like I just needed to keep poking at it:

Ho Do I Monitor Internet Usage With Solarwinds NTA?
Hi,
Is it possible to monitor Internet usage by endpoints, right down to accessed URLs, using NTA? Pls advise.
Do you need Network Access Control solution ?
I wonder how many of you already have some version of a Network Access Control (NAC) solution in place. Theoretically speaking, Mobile device management (MDM) is just a part of a bigger NAC, so I would like to ask you to vote "yes" even if you have only the MDM solution in your organization.. If voting for "We don't have one but plan to buy", could you please leave a comment on why is it important for you to have one?
Rogue AP detection
Do you have a need to detect rogue APs connected to your network?
