When adding new nodes to NPM, do you use Network Sonar or you add your nodes directly?
Do you have a need to detect rogue APs connected to your network?
We have stumbled across a problem with the Web Alert Manager getting alert rules with primary and secondary complex trigger stages to execute properly.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about, we have an instance of a primary custom SQL trigger that is working correctly and returns 87 rows:
But what we would really like to be able to do is (below) use both SQL and non-SQL together to produce the same
results as the SQL only trigger from above:
The above multistage trigger does not work correctly even though it's basically the same thing except I'm using
the GUI based drop downs in the secondary stage. When this trigger fires it produces several thousand rows
instead of the 87 from the original custom SQL primary only trigger. We don't want to have to deconstruct all of
the alert rule triggers in SolarWinds down to a custom SQL only primary trigger, that would be a nightmare.
I'm I missing something here in the difference between the above two scenarios?
Hi ,
I have recently installed 2 new additional polling engines and decommissioned my faulty polling engines. I want to switch the license of the faulty polling engines to the new ones. How can I do that. presently it is using 30 eval license.
I have a node that shows 100% availability but is also showing that it was not available for over 24 hours (the chart is blank for that period)
Why would the availability show 100%?
We had a circuit failure that cause that office to be offline for a full day. I don't understand why the statistics don't reflect that.
Just a quick question. Is there an easy way to return the device views back to the defaults? Our previous admin customized the views to suite his needs without understanding the impact it would have on the other users. The default views were modified rather than making copies and modifying them. I don't think there is an easy way to go back so I have been taking screen shots of the online demo of NPM at SolarWinds and then plan to manually rebuild them to match the online demo. Any different ways to get back to defaults?
I was asked to add a node (not a windows server, a UPS or similar device) to Orion that must be added via SNMP. Adding it and then hitting the "Test" button returns "Test Failed" but no details (for all versions of SNMP). I used the MIB Walk tool from the Engineers toolset (that is installed on the same server Orion and it's poller runs on) and was able to use the same SNMP read string to walk the MIB without issues.
Is there a n Orion log or something (a debug setting, etc.) I can use to try and find out why Orion is failing to use SNMP but the MIB Walk tool has no issues?
I have a really weird case where my Website is showing a bad Timeclock vs the Orion Server
Orion Server is on UTC -6
Website is on UTC -8
Orion Database are saved on Databse with Orion server Timezone .... That is Ok.
But is possible that my Website is using a different Timezone that my Orion Server?
Some similar case?
Any kind of help or information will be helpfull.
Thanks in advanced for your help
Gustavo.
Hey everyone,
Does anyone know if there is a default of how long the polling interval is supposed to be for interfaces on a device, such as an acr, dtr, cmts?
Hi
I got some 650 cisco nodes to my Npm setup that has juniper and Alcatel.
The new HW is a group of 4500 7600 9K routers and some 2900 3700 switces.
use univesal poller to get Temp /FAN /PSU and general HW status from the older type 4500 and 7600 .
But 9k types routers..... it's like other vendor made that box and not cisco!!!!
non of those OID from 7600 or 4500 work on that box...
Any good useful traps or poller to that 9k type ? I try to not to use the OOB HW heath.
/SJA
Hi,
Currently trying to backup my orion database , so that I can migrate it to a new server. The SolarWinds NPM will stay on the orginal server. I used the SolarWinds Technical Reference - Moving Your Orion NPM Database document. I moving from SQL 2005 to SQL Server 2015.
It looks like the database size is 79gb. It been running fo over 4 hours I get the below that it failed. I stopped the services as stated in the document.
Any advice would be useful on what to do ?
Thanks
We've changed Solarwinds Orion URL from http://<Orion NPM server IP>:8787 to https://<Orion NPM Server IP>. When we attempt to create a report schedule on it with email as a configured action, output error email message is as follows:
Unable to retrieve url: https://<Orion NPM Server IP>:8787/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=192 using PDF type.
Please advice on what modifications that still needs to do on the server. Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
I want to know if we can or how to keep the granular data of interface utilization charts over the standard 7 days. At the moment I've configured for NPM to poll the interfaces on a per minute basis (rather than the default 9 minutes I think it was).
Because every time we go past the 7 days mark, it gets averaged out to 12 hours or once a day rather than per minute basis. May not be advisable, but I want to try 2 weeks or up to a month.
This is NPM Summary > Select a Node > Current Percent Utilization of Each Interface, then select any interface charts.
Thanks
Has anyone monitored their APC in-Row ACRD100 air coolers\air-conditioners with NPM?
I have several of these units in my data center together with other APC power equipment (Symmetra 40K UPS AP9617, PDU's and rack PDU's)
I have created a few custom pollers for the UPSs that monitor battery capacity, run time, load etc.
I would like to create a few custom pollers for the ACRD100 air coolers to monitor some variables such as cool setpoint, inlet air temperature, supply air temperature etc.
I would like to create a map for non-data devices in my Data Center that would display real time info as well.
Does anyone know which OID's are needed?
I have tried the following, but with no success, the mibs are all unsupported
dod>private>enterprise>apc>products>hardware>airconditioners
there is also:
dod>private>enterprise>apc>products>hardware>system>networkAir(14)>airIRRD100Series(8) but there are no pollers in this folder
Any assistance is greatly appreciated
I hope to start an interesting exchange on various ways that SolarWinds users employ custom properties.
What "workarounds" have you done that used a custom property as an integral part of the solution?
Those of us that have been working with SolarWinds for even a short time know all to well how useful the custom property can be. So, what are your stories and use cases?
Let's hear them?
When adding new nodes to NPM, do you use Network Sonar or you add your nodes directly?
Please expand on “Other” and why by adding a comment below.
I was hoping this was fixed in version 9 but I still can't seem to make the Execute External program to work via alerts.
What I am trying to accomplish is to play a sound on a remote system when the alert is tripped. I can get the following command to work from the command line:
f:\psexec -d \\1xx.1xx.1xx.1xx -i c:\progra~1\window~2\mplayer2.exe /play /close c:\tada.wav
and it plays a sound on the remote system.
I then put the exact same string in the Execute External program in the advanced alert and it sends out the email but doesn't kick off the sound.
So I then put the contents into a batch file and pointed the alert to run the batch file. Same thing, no sound.
The alert test "says" it worked ok but didn't. I then thought it might be related to the fact that I was "testing" it so I simulated a device outage - email but no sound.
So in short - has anyone got the execute external program to work? Especially playing a sound on a remote workstation?
Hey guys,
I need a little help reformatting a report that I have been using for showing All Alert History for the past 4 days in my current deployment. The problem I have is the report worked prior to upgrading to NPM v11.5, however it doesn't work now. I am a complete novice when it comes to SQL so please forgive the primitive nature of the old query. I have found this thread Note about SQL table changes with NPM 11.5 or SAM 6.2 release that mentions changing AlertLog to AlertHistory and LogDateTime to TimeStamp but when I update the string it still isn't working. Does anyone have any pointers for updating it to pull the same info from the old database structure? We use this report for determining problem devices that need to have added scrutiny b/c they are alerting on a regular basis. Thanks for any help in advance.
