NetPerfmon DB tables

Hello Everyone,

we have an additional poller which is showing a different IP address in the poller details page. when i tried to look in the netperfmon database , i couldnt find the table that contains the polling engine details. In the earlier version it used to have the Engines table which had all the poller information. I do see the table Enginesold which shows the correct IP of the poller.

But the WebUI shows a different IP.  can anyone tell me which table holds the poller information in the NPM 11.5.2 version.

thanks,

Chethan

NPM 11.0 Release Candidate Now Available!

Intro to NPM 11.0

With NPM 10.7 just out the door, we are pleased to announce that NPM 11.0 has entered Release Candidate phase. In a first for SolarWinds, NPM 11.0 has the ability to collect packet-level data from sensors distributed throughout your environment, and calculate Network Response Time (NRT) and Application Response Time (ART) for ~1,200 applications. These statistics make it easy to tell at a glance whether an issue is a problem with the network or the application. In addition to response time statistics, we are capturing aggregate volume metrics, and have the ability to classify application traffic on your network by risk-level and relation to typical business functions.

All of this data is displayed in the new "Quality of Experience" dashboard:

QoE_Dashboard.png

Sensor Topology

So how are we able to gather this data? In NPM 11.0, we have the ability to deploy Packet Analysis Sensors (PAS) to Windows-based (64-bit / 2008+) systems. Sensors can be deployed in two configurations: "Server" or "Network."

With a "Server" PAS, the sensor is deployed directly on a server you would like to monitor. So for example, if you wish to monitor your Exchange response time / traffic, you would push the sensor directly to your Exchange server:

SPAS.png

For a "Network" PAS, the sensor is deployed to a dedicated Windows-based system with a dedicated interface attached to a tap / SPAN / mirror interface.

NPAS.png

Once sensors are deployed, you can choose from our library of ~1,200 application signatures to monitor, or create your own custom HTTP applications.

NPM 11.0 RC is available in your customer portal today. RC's are fully supported and upgradable to the final GA version (if it differs from RC.)

Please let us know if there are any questions. Comments welcomed below.

I have a very basic query. We have 1 Primary Polling engine and 4 additional polling engines.

In situation where the primary polling engine is down, then what is the impact? Just to add we dont have any failover mechanism.

Interface Detail Stats Retention

Is it possible to increase the retention policy for detailed statistics for specific interfaces?  For example, all my routers' WAN ports have an interface custom property named isCircuit.  I want to keep detailed stats for these interfaces for 40 days.  Is this possible?

I'm aware of the setting in poll settings.  You can specify the duration for detailed statistics retention, however it is for all elements and I'm looking to modify the retention for a targeted set of elements.

NPM 11.5.2 / SAM 6.2.1 w3wp.exe continuous crashing

Upgraded 3 separate Server 2008 R2 NPM/SAM environments to 11.5.2/6.2.1.  All 3 environments are hardly usable now, due to continuous w3wp.exe crashing (can't even get through adding a single Windows node now).  Have already rebuilt IIS resources by letting configuration wizard recreate with no luck.  Will update if workaround is found.  FYI to the folks considering upgrading.  Ticket#815879.

Since the release on NPM 11.5 we've been hard at working building the next round of exciting functionality and improvements in existing functionality.  I'm excited to share the following list of items we're working on:

Ongoing Initiatives:

  • Increased scalability per SolarWinds instance (target of 250k elements / instance)
  • Improved performance and decreased resource load times via analysis with SolarWinds DPA
  • Increased number of pollers possible per instance

False alerts on Checkpoint devices

I have been troubleshooting false alerts on checkpoint devices for quite a while.   Hopefully someone here can help out some.

This is our configuration.

  • Orion Platform 2014.2.1, IPAM 4.2, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.0.1, NTA 4.1.0, UDT 3.1.0, IVIM 1.10.0, VNQM 4.2
    • Everything except for our Neflow server are on virtual servers.
    • We have two pollers.
    • All SW Servers are located in the same datacenter.
    • Checkpoints are across the country.

When we get a false alert: (they are random and not consistent)

  • If you log into the Poller that device is assigned to, you can't ping or trace route to that device.   However if  you log into the other poller or from your desktop you can ping and trace route without issues.   This happens more often on our primary poller, but has happened on our secondary poller.
  • The false alerts many times bounce (show down, up, down, up about every 10 or so minutes)

I have:

  • Had our server team look at the servers and they have not located any issues.
  • Restarted the servers
  • Firewall team (responsible for the checkpoints) do not show issues or blocks
  • Updated the SW MIBS file
  • This is happening ONLY on Checkpoint devices.  Other monitored devices are not giving false alerts.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Cannot connect to Network Atlas

Once again I find myself with an inexplicable problem - I cannot connect to the Network Atlas.  I can RDP and log into the server and I can run all programs and access all directories.  However, when I try to connect to Network Atlas, I get a "Connect to Server" pop-up that will not accept any credential I offer.  I've tried domain accounts (all in Admin groups), local users, local host address, the network address, Orion vs. EOC.  All to no avail, and there's virtually nothing about this subject in any help file or forum.

Obviously, I'm missing something but I have no idea what it could be.  Why is access to Network Atlas completely different from admin access to the server?  Would someone please tell me what Network Atlas wants?

Group uptime

I have a single group called Citrix within Orion.  Within the group I have 30 servers, 2 routers, 1 netscaler, and a few other devices.  Is there a way to show uptime for the group as a whole.  Something like the Availability Statistics on the node detail screen?

Configuration Wizard and AD SQL Account

$

Hi all,

I'm using the SolarWinds Configuration Wizard in an attempt to change the account that is used for SQL authentication.  Currently, we use a local SQL account but would like to use a domain/AD one.  I keep getting an error message in the SCW saying that the password is incorrect, however I can connect to the database using the same account from the same machine when I'm not using the SCW.  I read in a post from 2012 that this is by design; is that still the case, or has there been an upgrade to resolve this?  If it's been resolved, any hints as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Dave

SolarWinds Configuration Wizard and SQL Account

Hi all,

When using the SolarWinds Configuration Wizard in an attempt to change the SQL logon account from a local one to a domain/AD one, I keep receiving an error message that says the password is wrong.  I read a post from 2012 that said domain/AD authentication for the Orion SQL DB isn't available by design.  Does anyone know if this is still the case?  If it's not, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Dave
