Error Message after installing SAM

First of all, this is my first week at the job. As a newbie, in order to learn NPM and SAM, I tried to install SAM for evaluation on our test server which NPM has already installed on. Then I realized that someone else installed before me and evalution period has expired. I decided to leave everything as it was before; however this time I got this error when I tried to open web console.

 

Resource Key 'LicenseElementDisplayName_Components' was not found in Resource File 'APM.Strings'

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: SolarWinds.Internationalization.Exceptions.TokenSubstException: Resource Key 'LicenseElementDisplayName_Components' was not found in Resource File 'APM.Strings'

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Issue: Syslog Service Rejecting packets Error Decoding Packet Packet Missing Starting '<'

 

In the syslog tab, i'm no getting any syslog messages. if i go to the event viewer i got this message (warning):

  1. SWSyslogService.SyslogPacket.DecodePacket - Packet Missing Starting

- Error Decoding Packet

Error Detail-System.FormatException: Invalid character in a Base-64 string.

at System.Convert.FromBase64String(String s)

at SyslogService.SyslogPacket.DecodePacket()

 

and this:

Troubleshooting :-

Capture the Traffic using below post for the effected host.

How to Verify Orion / Kiwi Syslog receiving  (NetFlow  port 2055) / (Traps port 162 ) / ( Syslog port  514 ) Traffic on …

 

 

Looking at the packet capture from effected host , Comparing that packet capture to tests that I ran on my lab server, the Syslog messages are not coming across with a severity or facility.

Virtualization Module not working right for Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter

I have several Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Hyper-V nodes in Orion and they are showing up as 'Host status unknown'. I have verified proper credentials and IP addresses. This only seems to happen on the Datacenter Hyper-V hosts. I can poll their normal stats fine with Orion, it's the Hyper-V polling that isn't working. I'm running NPM 11.5.2, SAM 6.2.2, IVIM 2.1.0, NCM 7.4.

Incorrect lastboot time appearing for Cisco 6509 switch.

Something is not right. I have a Cisco switch and Solarwinds shows a lastboot time "7/15/2011 3:38", however from the device itself says“System restarted at 00:02:38 CST Fri Mar 5 2010”.  What are the correct steps to take to ensure any switch is being polled correctly and displaying the correct  lastboottime in Solarwinds? The community/ACL for some datacenter devices were corrected however, It is still displaying the wrong last reboot time. Should we rediscover the devices? I look forward to anyone's insight. thank you

The first thing i would recommend to use theNavigation Tabs . This will reduce the amount of load on single page to load .

Only Add "Resources" which you really need to load on the First Tab (Summary Home Page )

Do not overload single Tab with resources .

Netowrk Atlas High resolution MAP background Even not to use any Map background  page will load extremely quick

Resource Time Period Try to use the Less Hours / or less amount say Last 10 Events / Last Hour

 

Use Multiple Navigation Tabs

Move extra load to other tabs you do not need to view on summary page .

move the resources to each Tab / Add more tabs if needed Do not over load single Tab

When using any Resources try to use the Less Hours / or less amount say Last 10 Events / Last Hour

Use Top XX Type of Resources and Try to use less amount to load such as 10 / 5 Top

Try not to use more then 2 Column unless you really need to do that and do not overload with Resources.

Using Custom Properties sending Alert emails

After receiving lots of queries i will try to explain in screen shots what steps needs to take if you wish to use custom properties logic to send email alerts to respective location / or team responsible for that node and group.

Basically when you have bunch of Nodes and you just wanted to send emails to the related department / Engineering Team only

Or You may have monitoring nodes for multiple customers where you would like to send emails to related customer for the nodes for that customer /


This post  can help in order to configure .


Step #1 Creating Custom Property


Start with Custom properties

Settings > manager custom properties.

Leave it blank and Submit

Step #2 Assigning email to the nodes

 

Go to Settings Manage Nodes.

(Select multiple Node you wish to assign the email ) and click Edit Properties.

Now assign the email you wish to assign so all the alerts will be sent to respected email for these nodes .

And Submit to save changes.

Step #3 Using Custom property name under Alert Trigger Condition

 

Now in Alert use the custom property name to send the email for required email address for each node.

Select the Alert you wish to Edit and Edit Trigger Action > Send an email /page.

Add Trigger Action

When the alert will trigger it will use the email you have assigned to the Node.



***** Adding CC you can create more custom properties to include CC emails such as an example below ****

NPM 11.5.2 / SAM 6.2.1 w3wp.exe continuous crashing

Upgraded 3 separate Server 2008 R2 NPM/SAM environments to 11.5.2/6.2.1.  All 3 environments are hardly usable now, due to continuous w3wp.exe crashing (can't even get through adding a single Windows node now).  Have already rebuilt IIS resources by letting configuration wizard recreate with no luck.  Will update if workaround is found.  FYI to the folks considering upgrading.  Ticket#815879.

Cisco Catalyst 3750 reports high transmit discards

Recently, we have set up Network Performance Monitor and it is showing a high amount of transmit discards on every interface of one of our switches.

AnnexStack is actually two Catalyst 3750 switches - one is a 24 port (WS-C3750-24PS-S) and the other is a 48 port (WS-C3750-48PS-S). They are connected via stackwise cable, and the 24 port is being elected as the stack master. These switches are both running Version 12.2(44)SE5. I have searched and found cases of people having a similar issue where the discards are reported incorrectly. However, the "show platform port-asic stats drop" is showing a large amount of TxQueue drops as well, so I do not believe it is being reported incorrectly.

From what I have read, transmit discards can be a sign of network congestion. It may be important to note that 70 of the 72 ports available are in use, but we have not noticed any disruption of service or problems relating to this issue.  All of the traffic is trunked through the GigabitEthernet2/0/1 port back to our core switch via fiber.

We plan to upgrade soon to two 48 port switches stacked in the same configuration, but we are worried that the amount of transmit discards may cause more trouble with 24 additional ports (if the issue is related to network congestion).

 

Any ideas or insight as to what could be causing this, things to test, etc, would be much appreciated.

Custom Interface Details View Creation Bug in 11.5.2? Newly created Interface Details views incorrectly show a non-referenced and non-expected node in the title header and subheader.

Perhaps I'm doing this incorrectly.  Perhaps I've found a bug.  Maybe there's a Hotfix to apply to fix it?

 

But each time I create a new View and select Interface Details, the resulting page always shows the name and Interface information for one of my network switches, which happens to be Node ID #2.

 

Check out my process:  Am I missing something?

 

1.  Open NPM > Settings > Views > Manage Views

2.  Click Add

3.  Name it, use the drop-down for Type of View to select Interface Details

4. Click Submit and the new View's configuration option page is displayed.

At this point I can add Resources, or even leave them all blank.  But when I click Preview, or Done and select the view to see it, I get a view showing a Node.

I can click Customize Page on the View, but it just goes back to the screen where I can add or remove resources--nothing about the header and sub header can be adjusted.

 

 

If I view the Page Info I see the Node name in the top, and an address with a net object referenced:

When I view the page source I can find that net object referenced several times there:

 

A different Net Object is referenced here:

 

Wish I were  JAVA scripting expert.

 

Why's this happening?

 

Have you seen this same issue?

 

How might I prevent/fix it?

Sometimes devices show up in Orion as "unknown".  Those devices need to be added to our SysObjectID database.  We know about lots of them, but we'd like to hear which items you need.

 We need:

SysObjectID (which you can find in Node Details) in System Manager.

NPM 11.5.2 GroupofGroups limitations breaking Information Service v3

Since upgrading to NPM 11.5.2 last week we've had intermittent, and serious, problems with the information service crashing.

I've uploaded diagnostics, and opened two cases with support (one actually as a system down -- but no call-back, and I've phoned and left messages, or been diverted into a voicemail box. Leapfile is uploading at 1.4Mbps, which is a little frustrating on a 1Gbps network connection.)

As I was writing this it looks like there is process generating snapshots of limitations? (is this new in 11.5.2?)

 

This error corrupts SWIS (I think it loses the database connection handle, and subsequent queries on the handle fail, which leads to other oddities); eventually SWISv3 crashes and restarts ... This has been going on all day...

 

It looks to me like the 'group of groups' type of limitation is breaking SWIS when that periodic recalc is performed :-(
