F5 BIG-IP versions in use
What version of BIG-IP your F5s run?
Discovery of DHCP based nodes
So I did some research on here and the closest I could find was this old thread regarding DHCP nodes. I can't find an effective way to discover them. Let me explain I can indeed discover and add them to monitoring as standard nodes but there doesn't appear to be a way to do a multiple edit to change them all to DHCP based. We had to do them one by one. We are in the process of adding upwards of 500 DHCP based Citrix servers (some kind of streamed OS) and the thought of having to change all these manually is appalling. Any thoughts other than a SQL edit?
Orion Website Error. This channel can no longer be used...
any idea about this error?
This channel can no longer be used to send messages as the output session was auto-closed due to a server-initiated shutdown. Either disable auto-close by setting the DispatchRuntime.AutomaticInputSessionShutdown to false, or consider modifying the shutdown protocol with the remote server.

Thanks for the help....
setup a SNMP server, then email coming. why no alert setup needed
I setup a SNMP server, then there are alerts coming into my mail box when nodes are up or down. I haven't configured an alert yet. Anyone know what happening to my Solarwinds. Thanks.
Node names changing to polling IP
What would cause node names to randomly change from a friendly (and sometimes manually set) name to the polling IP? Happens across 3 separate NPM environments. Persists through multiple versions of the product. Only happens to Windows nodes.
Solarwinds Active Diagnostics: Network Ports failing
Good afternoon,
I've recently purchased NPM and am trying to get it installed and running. Tech support cannot seem to figure most of this out so I've just been troubleshooting it on my own and trying desperately to get it up and running. I've got it mostly finished but have network ports not working.
I'm using a Server 2012 box for the NPM software application and a Server 2008 box with SQL Express 2014 installed. Everything installed fine but when I run the Solarwinds Active Diagnostics tool, I get the following errors. I have turned off the firewall for Domain, Public and Private networks, disabled the Server 2012 firewall from services but regardless it still shows these TCP and UDP ports failing below. Does anyone have any solutions? I'm stressing that I'm going to have resort to calling the tech support because it never resorts to anything getting resolves, and usually means me being the one figuring out the problem, not them. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Where in the DB is the list of ports associated with a node ?
Hello,
I'm trying to find a SWQL query that will give me a list of ports associated with an Orion.Node; I can't find where in the DB it is stored. Cirrus.BridgePorts appears to this info, but only for some and not all nodes that I create.
Anyone know?
Thanks!
Chris

Dependencies - Do Child Groups Include Node Interfaces and Apps automagically?
Afternoon Thwackers,
Quick question around dependencies. If I have the setup below:
- Parent Group, containing two nodes (the logical entry point to that site network)
- Child group, containing all the other nodes at that site
Does Orion include also any interfaces and application templates/components on the children in the dependency,or should we be creating 'Child Interfaces' and 'Child Application' groups to go along with the nodes?
Just scratching my head a bit at the theorycraft of the above, so if you could lend me the benefit of your experience I would appreciate it!

Discovery Central Results - Ignore Apps and Interfaces
Morning all,
We run a discovery scan every evening across all of our subnets to capture any machines that may have been missed and to ensure that anything new to these devices are picked up. Each morning I come in and ensure all the "New" devices are added and then add the "Changed" ones where applicable. The issue is, they remain in discovered results even once they are added and visible within the console.
The image below shows what I mean, this is after I have added the nodes. The "Scheduled Tasks" addition has been changed on most of the 700 devices in this table. You cannot add these, they do not appear on the "applications" tab of the import.
I do not want to have to click 700 times to ignore them (I know I can press the top check box, but there are some machines (Servers) that we will want this adding to. Please also note, this is also the same for "virtual memory" and "CD Drives"
Can we not add extra group by features so that I have more "interface" options to narrow the results and ignore more easily?
Why does the "Interface" discovery change daily, despite the fact that they are being monitored through UDT and the Trunk interfaces through NPM.
I don't want to ignore a device inadvertently, nor do I want to click 700+ times.
We are using - Orion Platform 2015.1.2, NCM 7.4, IPAM 4.3, IVIM 2.1.0, OFSMM 6.6.5, UDT 3.2.2, VNQM 4.2.2, DPA 10.0.0, NPM 11.5.2, QoE 2.0, SAM 6.2.2, NTA 4.1.1, Toolset 11.0.1, also using LEM.
Forwarding logs to SIEM
Hi all, I need to know if the logs generated by Orion of the host can be addressed to a SIEM , specifically ArcSight Express. This configuration can be done on the Web console or database configuration.
Installation of MS SQL 2014 Standard
I've been tasked with installing SolarWinds (NPM, IPAM, SAM, and STM). We will be using a physical server for the database, and a VM for the applications. My SQL knowledge is very limited.
Per the SQL Server Configuration Best Practices document, I am wanting to install Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Standard using the "recommended data storage setting with three HDDs".
This configuration uses C: for OS and SQL temp directory, D: for Orion data files (such as .MDF), and E: for Orion transaction logs (.LDF).
However, I am unable determine where these drives are configured during the SQL Server installation process so that the three SQL pieces listed above are located accordingly.
Per tech support, no document exists (not even for a plain-jane SQL installation) for this so I was advised to post my request on Thwack.
I did search for sql install and sql configure on Thwack before posting but found nothing that addresses my need.
Thanks,
Rob
Juniper VS Cisco
Hi
Does any one know why NPM will display the IP of loopback interface on a Cisco but not on Juniper?

How do I get odometers to show for traffic utilization?
This was a feature I enjoyed about solar winds NPM when I first saw it in an IT departments IT area many years ago at a hospital. How do I get this setup for specific interfaces?
