I am creating alert for link utilization. While creating i am using two conditional groups for my alerts to specify site vise. But i am geting error "complex condition is empty does not contain nested condition".
complex condition is empty does not contain nested condition
DNS is showing different entry for few nodes.
Hi,
Has anyone come across this issue:
For few nodes, when i checked the device name in DNS, it shows different than sysname. I checked the community string since its SNMP node but the test is success.
I have even rediscovered the node but dont see any difference.
Migrating and upgrading NPM
I've got an Orion server running NPM 10.6 (only module) on Server 2003 SP2 x86. I can't upgrade NPM past the current version along with other issues with SSL, etc. It needs to go. I just finished building a shiny new Server 2012 R2 for its new home. The DB is on another server that doesn't need an upgrade. For the new Orion server, I want to change over to the old hostname and IP, so I'll have less reconfiguration. I think I have a pretty good idea of how I need to go about it, but would like a second opinion if possible.
Here's my current plan (mostly using this as a reference):
- Backup SQL DB for good measure
- Stop/disable Solarwinds Orion processes on old server
- Swap IPs and hostnames of servers
- Install and configure NPM 10.7 on the new server (according to this post I will need to go from 10.6 to 10.7 to 11.5.x, so I'm hoping I can skip one of the upgrades as I install on the new server)
- migrate license and confirm everything is working
- upgrade to 11.5.2 (currently the newest version)
Anything I'm missing? I'm hoping I won't have to do any of the reassigning nodes since I'm swapping IPs and hostnames. Any advice would be appreciated.
Alerting Rules
Hi,
Got myself in a pickle over disk space alerting.
We have multiple groups that are responsible for their own devices (servers in this case), The groups work fine for controlling views but no good for alerting.
We have one "Systems" group that should get all alerts for disk space then another group need to get alerts for the same thing that are only relevant to them (if that makes sense)
So Group 1
Server001
Server002
Server003
Server004
Group2
Server002
Server004
I have 2 alerts configured 1 for Group1 and 1 for Group2 , both fire but the one for Group2 never shows the name of the device firing the alert.
I have included my alerts for review (be gentle with me)
Regards
Scott.

Issues after Upgrade to NPM 11.5.2
Hi All,
Please help!!
We are having following issues after upgrade to NPM 11.5.2 and SAM 6.2, please let us know how we could fix these,
- We have one Additional Web Server, Application Pool of Our Webserver stops randomly every 4-5 days.
- Sometimes when we click on Settings option, following Website error appears ,
Unexpected Website Error . Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.
- While Exporting Custom Properties, Additional (extra)Column get exported with Column heading as,
sha1(<<All Custom property names separated by "|">>) |
4. While Creating Alert, the wizard times out after clicking next and does not function properly, one needs to be very quick to make an alert or else it will timeout within one minute. Alert home Screen will appear, it will have following message,
A draft alert was saved at 11:21 AM » Return to editing Draft » Delete Draft
- 5. While Creating Report, the wizard times out after clicking next and does not function properly, one needs to be very quick to make an Report or else it will timeout within one minute and Report Home Screen will appear.
- 6. NETWORK SONAR DISCOVERY does not work for WMI Based Polling. We are able to add nodes in Bulk, only using SNMP and ICMP. Nodes are not getting added in Bulk through Service Account Credentials (WMI) in Sonar Discovery.
But adding a single node option is working.
- 7. While Importing Custom Properties, the loading of file to be used for Importing takes lot of time, it never took so long for file to load in previous version.
- 8. Console has become Slow.
- 9. Sometimes repeated pop up comes for authentication to Webserver.
- 10. While Working Normally on application "Unexpected Website Error" comes randomly after clicking on any option.
Do You use Product Upgrade Advisor website before you upgrade product?
SolarWinds has Product Upgrade Advisor website which helps users to validate compatibility of product versions.https://customerportal.solarwinds.com/support/product-upgrade-advisor
Do you use that prior any product upgrade?

Filter Interface query
In our Top XX bandwidth Interfaces by Percent utilization we want to limit to only certain interfaces. Our current query looks like this
mapview = 'summit' and InterfaceName like 'Serial%' or InterfaceName like 'Gigabit%' or InterfaceName like 'ppp%'
We created at custom Properties called TopXXInterBy_Util that is yes or no.
Question: how can we change our query to just show interfaces with only TopXXInterby_Util that have yes configured?
Thanks in advance
David
Virtualization Summary has unknown device (ghost device)
Not sure what this is but if I click and tell NPM to manage it I get an add node view but with no ip or dns info. When I try to edit the device it comes back with an error. Just saw this today while adding ESX hosts via the vCenters. Any ideas? I get the feeling its possible data left over in the db but since its a prod system I can't touch it during the day.
I also noticed this Hosts with problems iframe error.
and if I click on the view details I get this error.
Changing interface bandwidth for slower WAN connection
I have a location with a Point to Point microwave connection. The radio is connected to Port 23 on my Cisco 3550 switch. I am monitoring the port for utilization but of course it is reading at 100Mbps, the radio connection is actually about 27Mbps. How can I change or monitor this interface with a more realistic bandwidth?
Can you cancel a discovery but keep the discovered devices?
I have a large network and have identified four /16 address ranges for discovery. But it is taking forever. Can I "cancel" the discovery and still add the devices that have already been discovered?
NOC issues
Hi
I have recently done a network scan with NTM (it is AWESOME, buy it!) to enable me to map out the network.
Having done all this, created the maps and transferred and tidied within Network Atlas I now have a NOC with 5 tabs showing various parts of our network.
The problem is, it cycles round the tabs 2 or 3 times then sticks unable to load the resource. I have clicked to show a cached version of the map whilst it loads but to no avail.
As it stands I am having to remain connected to the PC streaming the NOC to refresh the browser each time it hangs.
Any ideas?
Which Help Desk / Service Desk are you using?
VSS vs. standalone switches
What percentage of all your switch ports approximately comes from stacked and standalone switches?
Does your organization use Mobile Device Management or MDM?
With the explosion of smart mobile devices, both tablets and phones and end users wanting to connect them for email, remote access (VPN), wireless etc. How are you handling this? Does your organization even see this as a problem? What level of control are you looking for? Do you care if they have apps like DropBox are installed on them and uploading corporate files without your knowledge?
When I talk about Mobile Device Management I mean specifically things like:
- Remotely manage and setup end users mobile devices (i.e. Google Android or Apple iOS) with the settings for service such as email access, wireless, VPN etc.
- Enforce corporate security standards and best practices such as ensuring a pass-code is set or disabling certain feature or functions on the device like the camera
- Ability to remotely wipe a device if lost or stolen
- Report on types of devices, the hardware and software installed on them in your environment
- Track users or stolen devices via GPS
Network Sonar Discovery fails at Config Management tab
I am attempting to run the Network Sonar Wizard and once I click next on the Virtualization tab, before it can proceed to the Config Management tab it fails stating "There was an error retrieving data from SolarWinds Information Service. Invoke failed, check fault information." Detailed log is below. Can anyone provide some further insight? I've run the Orion Diagnostics but there were no obvious errors.

Group Details View Variables
Any idea where I can find a list of the valid variables on the Group Details view in NPM?
The only ones that I've had luck with are "${Caption}" and "${DetailsURL}".

New SolarWinds Installation
How should I design the new SolarWinds deployment using the least amount of servers without affecting performance??
I have a current installation with several SolarWinds products, so I have a good idea on the overall size of my deployment. I just finished taking 2 weeks of training at Loop1 Systems with Bill Fitzpatrick (excellent training btw if anyone gets a chance to go). Now that I'm back in the office, I am thinking about starting over from scratch. We own/use NPM, SAM, NTA, DPA, SRM, STM (SRM-Profiler), and the additional Web Server Engine.
I know the following:
- I will be building a new physical SQL server
- I will be building a new virtual Primary Poller - Orion server
- The remaining server(s) will be virtual
Can I get away with installing the NetFlow database (NTA itself to be installed on the primary poller), STM (SRM-Profiler), and the additional Web Server Engine on 1 virtual machine?
Here is our current usage:
