NPM/SAM Server needed re-instalation

Hello,

Just a quick run by to see if anyone has any ideas.

A NPM/SAM Server that held the Application bit of the suite has been failing due to Microsoft Message Queuing failing.

As a result its becoming impossible to restart the Microsoft Message Queuing service and once it has been removed as a feature and re-installed it wont allow to be installed and alas started.

Anyone has had this issue before if so some input could be valued or maybe make a new install on a new server and try to point at old database would that do the trick ?

Regards.

Alert/Custom dashboard view based on Custom Property - Force restriction before page is rendered?

$

I have a bunch of users with defined groups of devices based on a Custom Property.

Where these people should only view this bunch of devices [CP group x]

and another 5 groups of people should see devices by CP group a/b/c/d/e etc.

Although their NPM view assigned only shows the nodes assigned to the group per required, All Active Alerts and Active Alerts report the same rather than adhering to any CustomProperty like Last XX Events (and the Event Summary) does.

Need to set same for Last xx Audit Events, Transactions and the other tabs rather than having to build a custom dashboard for every required tab removing boxes that contain all data rather than a query based on their required restriction.

Leaves us having to say sorry but there is no Last Audit Event information available for you and it will have to be built as a custom report rather than on the dynamically generated Orion portal.

In the interest of providing this information to the users, anyone know if it is possible to force this custom property query into the link for example before the page is rendered?

Don't really want to go and replicate and modify ever tab avail to these groups.

Cheers

Rename node captions in bulk?

In our current deployment I have spent a good bit of time manually editing each node's caption to reflect a more friendly name.  I will be upgrading our entire deployment, basically starting from scratch.

I want to select all of my present nodes by IP address, copy the captions associated with the IP, then somehow import that data into my new database.  Thoughts?  Thank you!!

Since the release on NPM 11.5 we've been hard at working building the next round of exciting functionality and improvements in existing functionality.  I'm excited to share the following list of items we're working on:

Ongoing Initiatives:

  • Increased scalability per SolarWinds instance (target of 250k elements / instance)
  • Improved performance and decreased resource load times via analysis with SolarWinds DPA
  • Increased number of pollers possible per instance

Uptime and Downtime Report

Is there a way  that we can create a report that displays below fields?

Node | Event Time | Status

Values should be Node with down events and up events.

I used the EVENTS to create a report. And i choose the fields EVENT TIME, NODE NAME and STATUS. But only up status were displayed.

When I filter the STATUS with up and down, same output shown.

Thanks!

SNMPv3 communication stopped working with our APC PDU's. SNMPv1 still works.

Wondering if anyone has run into this issue or something similar before.

We are in the process of adding our APC PDU's into NPM. I added approximately 90 or so PDU's into Solarwinds and built some UNDP's for them. PDU's were talking to Solarwinds via SNMPv3. Everything was going great. However, the friday before last, suddenly solarwinds stopped polling on 80 of the 87 devices. Devices show up and pingable, but no data is being polled. The other 7 devices are working just fine though I tried to re-add a couple of the PDU's and they are now unable to connect via SNMPv3 - test fails constantly when trying to add them. Funny thing is, SNMPv1 works just fine if I configure the PDU with that.

I'm hoping someone else has had a similar issue at some point

NPM - List of HTML Tags for Alert Emails

This is infuriating. I can't find a list/doc of HTML tags that work in NPM alert emails. Such a fundemental piece of info. I've searched Thwack, Google and the NPM AG ad nauseam. Getting a little annoyed that I can't find this info anywhere.

Does anyone have something? It would be greatly appreciated.

SWQL for top XX nodes by CPU

So in the same vain as this thread:

SWQL for top XX nodes by average response time

I've modified the code to point to CPU Load, however I don't get the nice bar graph that the built in module has.

Is there a way to replicate the bar graph functionality for the cpu load, interface utilization, etc?

How to present OID returned value as text in Network Atlas map? Does anyone know how make the OID returned value show up in map instead of Green/Red status icon? I am monitoring a UPS and want to build a Dashboard or Table with various Input and Output voltages, frequencies, etc. to be presented as values.

NPM 11.6 Beta I.

I'm pleased to announce that the wait for an NPM beta is finally over!  We've got lot to show.  To prevent it from being overwhelming, we're releasing a little bit at a time.  That way, during each beta, we can focus on a specific area and really make sure we're accomplishing what we need to for you guys.

button.png

This first beta includes the following:

  • Updated UI Look and Feel - The UI is receiving some love this release, spanning across NPM, SAM, VMAN, and the other Orion based products.
  • ServiceNow Integration - Automated ServiceNow incident creation, update, and closure out of the box.

While you're using the beta, here's a few questions to get you thinking of feedback that will help us make the product better:

  • Updated UI
    • What do you think of the new toolbar?  Do you find yourself getting to your destinations more quickly and easily?
    • Did you have any trouble finding the features and functions you have used in previous version of NPM?
    • How's the UI speed?
  • ServiceNow Integration
    • Was it easy or hard to get the integration working?  Any hiccups?  Anything you found confusing?
    • Does the integration support the most important workflows you'd like to automate between NPM and ServiceNow?
    • Is ticket creation, update, and closure fast enough?

At SolarWinds, being customer driven and reacting to customer needs is a fundamental part of how we build software.  Beta feedback is one of the key avenues we use to inform and adjust what we're building so that it fits your need and your environment.  We'll take feedback anytime we can get it, but now is the best time to provide feedback that will impact the product.

As an added incentive, beta users who submit feedback will receive 2,000 Thwack points to buy swag at the Thwack Store.  That's enough points to score yourself all sorts of stuff, including one of several different t-shirts including my personal favorite, the geek shirt.

To get access to the beta, you need to be a customer on active maintenance for NPM and sign up here.  To share feedback, please post on the Network Performance Monitor Beta forum.

Sincerely,

NPM Team

Nodes with Problems: How to filter out hardware health 'fans running at full speed'

$

Trying to create a custom SQL query under Nodes with Problems resource, where I can filter out chassis fans listed under hardware health as 'Fans running at full speed'

Here's what shows up node description.

Nodes with Problems ignore running at full speed description field.PNG

..and here's the node details drill down of the condition I want to filter out.

Nodes with Problems ignore running at full speed sql.PNG

I was able to create a filter using: statusdescription not like '%Warning%', which is basically filtering out anything at Warning level, which is too broad. I've also tried : status not like '%Running at full speed%', which fails.

Where would I find the exact syntax to drill down to this one? You know, something like CurrentHardwareHealth.Status not like '%Running at full speed%'

ObjectSubType?!? Entity Type?!?

Tipping Point Basic Monitoring???

Hi

We have just added all of our Tipping Point IPS devices to Solarwinds, but i noticed that it doesn't present any CPU or Memory usage. We have experienced high CPU problems with our devices of late and until now these nodes were monitored by a team other than mine who use the Tipping Point management tool.

We added these nodes to Solarwinds as we felt we were not being told the full story, but unfortunately Orion hasn't picked up this information. In fact it only picks up interfaces, node details and availability.

Anyone else seen this or know of a way around this? I am new to Tipping Point so not sure whether this is something we need to configure on the nodes to allow or not.

Any help would be great.

Cisco UCS server blades not showing Hardware Health of Servers option in List Resources

$

I know that UCS blade chassis' are managed through the FI's but with no link back to the FI from the production IP monitored node (Windows 2008 R2) in this case then I am too far removed from the hardware to troubleshoot effectively.

Am I missing something - do I need to add all the blades twice - once by their mgmt IP and again by production IP? Same question about linking back. I really want to avoid dependency mapping and with the UCS manager credentials I can't imagine how Solarwinds can't map the serial provided by the OS to the physical blade slot and chassis.

I just had Solarwinds thrust upon me

I just had Solarwinds thrust upon me and I need to know more about the end of life/end of sale piece.  How can I tell what version I have, what is the latest version, and do I need some sort of access to the Cisco websaite to make this work?  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
