Every time I open the MIB browser on a Cisco device and nothing shows up.
When I go my Solarwinds server and open Orion Universal Device Poller I get an error.
Do the Orion Universal Device Poller and MIB Browser both rely on SQLServer?
Thanks

I have a really good team of MSSQL admins, and they regularly run the DBCC feature to be proactive in finding database problems and correcting them before they become bigger issues impacting the applications. Over the past year or so, there has been three times they found a corrupt table (MapStudioFiles) in the NPM database. We tell them to go ahead and "fix" the corruption using DBCC and it usually screws up some of our maps. It's happened again and they are wondering if we can get some feedback from the vendor (Solarwinds) on the regular corruption. Yes, our MSSQL server is clustered for HA, and Solarwinds is the only application using the instance. The database files are split across multiple SAN LUNS for performance, and the LUNS for the Solarwinds DB have already been moved onto SSD for performance.
For reference, here are the current versions of our Solarwinds build:
Has anyone else had any common experiences like this?
I couldn't find an out-of-the-box solution for seeing the current connections on each virtual server for a F5 loadbalancer so I created a poller for this. Now my goal is to alert when some of they go above a certain number. I am only working with one of the virtual servers as a test. It appears that I need to do some sort of SQL query to do this but I do not know how to create an alert from this. Below is my SQL query that works in MS Studio. I can also use it to return a value into the email I have being generated. What am I missing?
SELECT CustomPollerStatusTable.NumValue
FROM CustomPollerStatusTable
WHERE (
CustomPollerStatusTable.PollerID = '7BEEB32A-8FD8-4EA8-9003-031C9FFDC391' and
CustomPollerStatusTable.FullLabel = '/Common/SomeVirtualServer on ProdF4' and
CustomPollerStatusTable.NumValue >=300
)
I tried to do this using the Advanced SQL Alert but the pre-defined stuff is messing me up. I tried the below code to trick it but I think I don't understand how this works.
SELECT CustomPollerStatusTable.CustomPollerAssignmentID, CustomPollerStatusTable.CompressedRowID, CustomPollerStatusTable.FullLabel FROM CustomPollerStatusTable
WHERE 0 = 1
SELECT CustomPollerStatusTable.NumValue
FROM CustomPollerStatusTable
WHERE (
CustomPollerStatusTable.PollerID = '7BEEB32A-8FD8-4EA8-9003-031C9FFDC391' and
CustomPollerStatusTable.FullLabel = '/Common/SomeVirtualServer on ProdF4' and
CustomPollerStatusTable.NumValue >=300
)
Hi,
I successfully moved the SolarWinds database(SolarWindsOrion) from a local SolarWinds server to a separated\dedicated SQL server by followed the "Migrating SolarWinds NMP Technical Reference" document. As far as I know everything works.
When I tried to stop the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service on the local server (Don't need it anymore, database has moved), it shows about 18 services still depend on this local SQL server service. They are such as SolarWinds Alerting Engine, SolarWinds Alerting Service V2, SolarWinds Collector Data Processor.......SolarWinds Syslog Service, SolariInds Trap Service...
How do I remove the dependencies so I can stop the local SQL server service? As now I separated the front end Web running NMP and SAM and the back end SQL server storing the database. The only thing changed was the database server everything stayed intact. Originally one server ran both SolarWinds (NMP and SAM) and SQL server.
Thank you,
Loc
Are there any templates out there or ways to monitor whether a VPN connection goes down through NPM?
Apparently our VPN here went down because the VPN negotiation got stuck looping a packet (no idea how that would happen) and wondered if packet monitoring at this level is possible through Solarwinds.
However, if you guys have some sort of proactive approach or suggestion to monitor VPN connections then I'd love to hear it.
Thanks
I don't understand why there is group member alert available in Solarwinds. I setup email alert working well, but the system doesn't allow me to show which nodes or groups or group members triggered the alert. It seems group member alert doesn't want me know what triggered the alert. Anyone has an idea what I should do. Thanks
Sorry if this in the wrong place, or answered elsewhere but i was unable to find it...
We have the following setup for our SolarWinds Orion:
1 - Main Poller/App Server
1 - Main SQL Database Server
1 - NetFlow DB Server
2 - Additional Polling Servers
1 - Additional Web Server
My question is, since we have the Added Web Server, should the SolarWinds Website service still be running on the main app server? We point all traffic to the Additional Web Server. Just trying to make sure there is as little overhead on each server to increase performance a tad.
Thanks,
Hi All,
Ever since i upgraded my NPM to 11.5.2, when ever i restart the Orion Services some of my very old alerts gets re-triggered and i am getting lot of incident / Emails.
Is anyone facing similar issue? Please help!!
Thanks,
Reuben
We were planning to switch our Windows nodes which are currently monitored via WMI over to the Agent based system, given that the "SolarWinds.Agent.Service.exe" process was only using about 20-30 MB of RAM and seemed to be pretty low impact on the servers being monitored.
However, after deploying an agent to one of our DEV servers, we noticed that we also have additional services consuming resources, namely SWJobEngineWorker2x64.exe and SWJobEngineSvc2.exe:
Opened a support ticket 910796 for this and was told that this is normal/expected behavior, wondering if anyone else has chosen to do an agent deployment and seen this in their environment? I can't consider 400+ MB of RAM consumption to be light weight and this is basically a deal breaker in terms of deploying agents if this is considered "normal".
SolarWinds has Product Upgrade Advisor website which helps users to validate compatibility of product versions.https://customerportal.solarwinds.com/support/product-upgrade-advisor
Do you use that prior any product upgrade?
Hi,
Looking at deploying Solarwinds, NCM, NTA and IPAM in what is essentially a small multi-tenancy environment. I have seen a few documents on using a central NPM deployment and using NAT or policy based routing to mitigate duplicated address space and nodes with duplicated IP addresses in multiple customer networks. The documents I have found seem to be a few years old and both these options seem somewhat 'clumsy'. I am wondering if there is more up to date document that shows how Solarwinds supports multi-tenancy. To do it properly, EOC seems to be the answer with separate NPM deployments per customer but this is not cost competitive in software and hardware terms for us. I come from a solarwinds background (al-be-it single tenant deployments) but looking to make a case for going with a small multi-tenant solarwinds solution.
I am particularly interested in how when using a central NPM with a small number of customer specific remote pollers, NCM, NTA and IPAM can deal with the duplicated IP address space and multiple nodes with an identical IP address duplicated across multiple customers. Can anyone point me in the direction of any useful documents or offer advice?
cheers
Carl Bassett.
Hey, have just added the ‘Last XX Notes’ to Nodes Details page. Do any of you use this / have ideas to share on what it may be handy for? Also, any idea as to where these notes reside in the DB?
Hi,
Is there somewhere in the product that is converting it to Chinese? How can I preserve the English version?
This came up because management saw information under the storage tab that showed a volume at 98% full on a Component Volume. I told them the C:\ was only 60% while looking at Disk Volumes under Vital Stats (which I proved correct by simply logging into the server and taking a screenshot for them). However, I have not been able to find in support guides to show the difference between the two.
I am clear on Disk Volumes, that is pretty obvious, but I simply can not explain the Component Volumes under the Storage tab, does anyone have a link to a support doc or PDF that has that information? I am pretty sure it is tied to virtual storage, is this the back end storage making up the drives I see in the VM? I dont interact with backend configuration of VMs so I really dont know much about how the storage on them works.
Hello All
First off, thank you to everyone in the Thwack community for helping me out. This community has made my job a helluva lot easier.
Okay, real talk. My peers have complained that the Top XX Conversations is not accurate and that the top conversation has already passed and not causing congestion by the time the alert comes in (90%+ tx/rx for 30 min).
One of the major causes of traffic would be backups for us from our international or cross-continental servers and that's what the Top XX Conversation would point to. However, when I drill into the top converstaion it said that the conversation peaked 15 min prior but it still shows it as the top conversation.
Am I reading the Netflow data wrong or am I needing another approach such as shorter polling methods or better threshold settings.
Any input would be appreciated.
If one node gets an alert, later on changes hostname, then gets another alert. The first name is shown on all alert-pages.
Why (I think): Because the db-value [orionDB].[dbo].[AlertObjects].[EntityCaption] (and potentially [RelatedNodeCaption]) is not updated when the nodes caption is changed.
Caption should not be stored in more then one place as it created these kind of mismatches.
Am I right?
Hi All,
I did find few posts and KB articles on this but still would like to know from everyone who has done the change.
My security team has requested to convert the existing URL to SSL based since they have found that the URL is accepting communication in un-trusted manner.
I saw the steps in the admin guide and also changes to be made DB but has anyone come across any issues?
I have only one Main poller so cant take chances on this.
