Trying to figure out what to do with the MIB I downloaded off the server so that I can poll CPU, Power supplies, etc. All I can do with out of box is interfaces.

NPM 12.0.1 and PDF Exports
Has anyone else upgraded to NPM V12.0.1 and noticed that PDF Report Exports are extremely small, no longer full page and do not include the Logo ?
We recently upgraded and discovered this issue which we tested on multiple machines, OS's and Browsers to no avail. Our workaround is to perform a Print to PDF rather than a direct export.
If anyone has seen this and has a fix please let me know.
Thank You !
Best Practice for Secure NMS Implementation?
Hello,
I work in a secure, paranoid environment. Solarwinds will be fired up shortly.
There are security concerns regarding where to place the SW servers in the network since they'll be able to communicate with virtually every device, particularly Internet edge routers, firewalls, and switches.
Have you placed your SW installation inside your trusted network, in a DMZ, etc.?
What security compromises are made by sending Netflow data and Syslog from an edge router via its management port? Specifically, If a router is compromised on its outside interface, can the management port be used as a portal into the network(bearing in mind basic hardening is performed)?
Is a Network management VLAN sufficient for segmenting management data from other VLAN traffic? Are there any real advantages to building out a separate management infrastructure(switch connected to management interfaces of all network gear), when it will still connect back to the core switch anyway?
Is there a governing body(like CIS) that issues best practices for securely implementing an NMS.
Thank you

Hardware requirements for additional polling engine using several modules?
Hello everyone, we are considering adding another additional polling engine to our SolarWinds environment, and we are re-evaluating our hardware needs for additional pollers. I am having a difficult time locating hardware requirements for this for more than just 1 particular module. We are running the following modules:
NPM 12.0
IPAM 4.3.2
SAM 6.2.4
DPA 10.0.1
NCM 7.5
IVIM 2.1.2
QoE 2.1.0
NetPath 1.0
NTA 4.2.0
UDT 3.2.4
We currently have 2 licenses per server, and all of our servers used for our entire SolarWinds environment are virtual servers if that matters. I would also like to confirm if 12,000 total elements per additional poller is the maximum number of total elements we should be allowing, and if there is lesser number than 12,000 that we should consider moving nodes to an additional polling engine. We currently do not have any nodes that we no longer need to monitor, and the polling rate on one of our additional pollers has been hovering at 60% with just under 9,000 total elements, so we are trying to be a little proactive before we reach 85% of its polling rate and have to start scrambling a little faster to come up with a proper resolution.
I apologize if I'm leaving out any pertinent information in this-- I am a SolarWinds newbie and at the very beginning of the learning curve here. If there is anything I left out please let me know and I'll be happy to provide that information. Thanks in advance!!
To SaaS or not to SaaS, that is the question.
Please help us understand your organization's thinking on this topic by selecting how much you agree or disagree with the following statement:

Nodes Total, Down, Up
Hi,
I'm looking for something to stick on the home page above the Network Map that states "Total number of nodes" followed by "Number Of Nodes Down" and Number Of Nodes Up" I'd like it to be in one resource. I've VERY little experiance with SQL queries and so far all I've come up with is a report that shows number of nodes either up or down but no idea how to put them into one. Any taughts or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.
How many events can be stored in "Events" in Orion???
Generating trap message alerts from trap details
Hi all,
I'm trying to trigger an action in a rule in the Trap Viewer based on information in the trap details and so far I haven't been completely successful. I have traps coming into our trap viewer, and I have created a test Rule that will generate an email. If I don't put anything into the trap details tab of the Rule, the Rule generates the email just fine (based on conditions). However, for the specific traps we need to alert on, the only way they are differentiated is in the trap details.
Example. When we do a generator test, we get 4 traps. 2 are the same trap (0.3) but in the details it shows you that they are different. (the 3 means that an event was triggered). Then we get 2 additional traps that are the same(0.4). The 4s are the events clearing.
I can make the rules alert on the trap just fine (the 0.3 part of it) but I haven't been able to combine that trap condition with the trap details (specifically the OID of what is going on) and alert. Based on the above example, we want to have 4 rules. 3A (triggering A), 3B (triggering B), 4A (clearing A), and 4B (clearing B). Below are some of the trap messages.
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks, Phil

column order in Tabular Universal Device Poller
How can I change order of columns on Tabular Universal Device Poller table?
for example I have table as below and I'd like to set VSNAME as a first column -- label of the row, then VSPROTOCOL, VSSTATE, and later measurements for Connections, BytesIn, etc.
VSNAME - LABEL | VSINBYTES | VSACTIVCONNS | VSINPKTS | VSOUTBYTES | VSCONNS | VSOUTPKTS | VSADAPTIVEMETHOD | VSPORT | VSL7COOKIEID | VSSTATE | VSNAME | VSPROTO | VSPROTOCOL | VSL17PERSIST | VSPERSISTENCETIMEOUT |

NPM 12 Message Center row color missing
For those that have upgraded to NPM 12 and using Message Center, you may have noticed row background color no longer colors the entire row.
Get a copy of this change plus more here: NPM 12 Message Center mod
I have jquery code update that can be added to the file C:\inetpub\SolarWinds\Orion\NetPerfMon\OrionMessages.aspx
This code will update the background color for the entire row.
At the bottom of the file there is a section that starts:
<script type="text/javascript">
Add this code right after that line and the row colors will once again be colored.
<script type="text/javascript"> $('div.event-icon').each(function () { var $tr = $(this).closest('tr'); var $color = $(this).css( 'background-color' ); $tr.css('background-color', $color); });

root credentials for ESX is not getting authenticated
Hi All,
I am facing issues for 20 odd ESXi version 5 servers when trying to test the root credentials in the Solarwinds console. As per the admin team they are able to login successfully, but whenever I am testing its saying "cannot login with this ESX/Vcenter credentials" .
So need your help here please...
Custom Node Details for specific users.
I am working on installing and customizing our Solarwinds NPM for a few departments at my company.
The issue I am currently having is assigning the "Node Details" view to users, I have copied the "Node Details" and changed the resources in the columns to only include those that are usable for them, but I am unable to find where I apply these views to specific users.
Help would be greatly appreciated!

Running Configuration Wizard imports old/deleted alert rules from depreciated database tables
(*** I'm posting this question in Thwack for visibility and transparency. Support case #1066290 created and escalated.)
There appears to be several issues that exist within the Configuration Wizard utility, or possibly the upgrade process within the Orion installer.
We know that over the years of Orion upgrades and version changes several database tables are no longer used and have been depreciated.
My own organization originally had Orion NPM v9 and have performed many upgrades and patches all the way to the current version of NPM v12 and SAM v6.2.4 over the years.
There are some old unused database tables (as well as all of it's data) still present in our Orion SQL database, and every time we run the configuration wizard it causes problems for us.
We assume that during the upgrade process, the data in the old table is supposed to be migrated to the new table(s) then delete the old table, but the old table is NOT getting removed.
For example, the "AlertDefinitions" table has not been used by Orion for some time now. The current SQL table for alert configurations is "AlertConfigurations".
Over the past year my team has completely reconfigured and re-standardized all of our alert rules. But every time we run the configuration wizard it merges/imports the data from the AlertDefinitions table into the active AlertConfigurations table, effectively re-adding in all of the old alert rules that have been made obsolete in our alert cleanup.
** Running database maintenance does NOT remove these old tables from the database. The user local SQL user account we are using has full SA rights to the Orion database in SQL Server so we know this is not a permissions issue.
So I have two questions:
- Can we safely remove the "AlertDefinitions" table from the Orion NPM database?
- What other database tables should have been removed during upgrade procedures from NPM v10 to v11, or Orion core 2015 to Orion core 2016? We want to avoid issues like this in the future.
What We're Working on for NPM (Updated July 21st, 2016)
Since the release on NPM 12.0 we've been hard at working building the next round of exciting functionality and improvements in existing functionality. I'm pleased to share the following list of items we're working on:
- Network Insight for Cisco ASA - Covering things like VPN tunnel monitoring, ACL visibility, and improved platform health (H/A status, hardware health).
- Improved Meraki Wireless Support
- Improved page content refresh so you don't get interrupted by a full page refresh while looking at data Ability to set Web refresh based on view number or account/group
- Faster and web based simplified product upgrades and installation of hot fixes
- Integrated Disaster Recovery Engine
- NPM total scalability improvements (4x polling capacity), scalability increase per single NPM instance, website loading time decrease, lower CPU usage.
- Unmanage behavior improvements - Unmanage reason (like shutdown tracker in Windows 2008)Silence Alerts While Still MonitoringUnmanage reason (like shutdown tracker in Windows 2008)Show 'Unmanaged' durationSilence Alerts While Still Monitoring
Ongoing Initiatives:
- Real Multi-tenancy support
- Single page integration between NPM and NTA.
- New "small" remote poller.
