NPM causes INPUT_QFULL_ERR once a day

Hello!

We are encountering following problem once a day.

We have a Cisco 6500 Core Switch running and 87 Cisco workgroup switches.

After a fresh Installation of Solarwinds NPM 12 we receive over 2500 trap messages with following text from our core switch:

sysUpTime = 341 days 0 hours 39 minutes 20,24 seconds

snmpTrapOID = CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB:clogMessageGenerated

clogHistFacility.439231 = SNMP

clogHistSeverity.439231 = 4

clogHistMsgName.439231 = INPUT_QFULL_ERR

clogHistMsgText.439231 = Packet dropped due to input queue full

clogHistTimestamp.439231 = 2946476024

The messages appear every24 hours and 15 minutes.

I wonder why the messages arrive once a day, not after each polling routine.

We changed SNMP to V1 to avoid bulk requests, but no success.

There are no other Solarwinds products installed, so NPM definetely causes the trap messages.

Is there a job or polling routine that runs once a day against the core switch in the mentioned rythm??

I checked the logfiles, but i cannot find a hint what´s going on.

Maybe you can help me finding the problem...

Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany!

There was an error communicating securely with the primary Orion server on AWS

Hi Everyone,

This is a isssue that I saw for second time on my Addittional Web Server..

I access my AWS through a Firewall.

"An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail."

The first time that I see this issue I open a Support Case with Solarwinds and they that just with Update .Net Framework to Latest Version supported will resolve the issue. I Upload from .Net Framework 4.0.3 to 4.5.2 on Main Poller and Addittional Web Server (AWS), this solution works for almost 3 weeks and then Surprise!!! Again I have the same issue. Obviusly I can't upgrade more the .Net Framework because I have the Latest supported version for Win2008R2 SP1

I'm running Orion Platform 2014.2.1, QoE 1.0, NPM 11.0.1, NTA 3.11.0, IVIM 1.10.0, VNQM 4.2

Someone with similiar issue?

Any kind of help will be appreciate.

Thanks in advance

Gustavo Villanueva.

I've a few questions about things in NOC mode

I'm working on getting the stuff we need and want to see on the NOC display set up to go onto a wall mounted display.  I have a few issues I would prefer to resolve, but I suspect it isn't going to work the way I'd like it to work.  If any of them make sense as feature requests, I will gladly make the request.  Now to my questions.

1. If I have the browser show items at 150% or 200% normal size, is it possible to have the headers and footers stay small while enlarging the info in the resource?  If (as I suspect) this is not possible, is there a way to make the header and footer smaller so that they aren't eating into too much of the scarce screen real estate?

2. Is there a way to have a long resource (e.g. down interfaces) either scroll automatically or perhaps display the top part, then display the next part, and so on until all the parts have been displayed?  Display one part on the first pass through the NOC Views, then display the next part the next time through?

One problem is that while I have various summary pages up on one of my screens most of the day, the NOC views are so other people in the office are able to see things without having to keep Solarwinds open on there machines. Another problem is that my monitor is normally at 1920x1280, but the display that the NOC screens will normally be on is 1280x720.  I wasn't exactly thrilled with how it looked on my display when it was a long resource, but I was really less than thrilled when I checked it out at the lower resolution.

We are running NOM 12.0.1, NTA 4.2.1, and Orion 2016.2.100.

Thanks, in advance, for any information or help.

When looking at my OrionWeb.log file, I'm seeing this entry appear repeatedly every 30 seconds.

Any way to track down the map resource and remove it?

Thanks!

Report on unmonitored resources

Is it possible (or is there already something which exists) which will tell me about resources on across all nodes which are not being monitored?  For example a server may have a C: and D: drive, but only C: is being monitored for space utilization.

on the flip side a report which list which resources for each node are being monitored?

Report to find nodes associated with Windows Crendential

We have an NPM instance where in 'Manage Windows Credentials' there's a credential name assigned to 15 nodes. We're trying to determine what 15 nodes that credential is assigned to. I don't see in web or report writer, a template that could be readily modified to extract this info without having to create a customized SQL query.

.

I looked in SQL Management Studio and believe I found the table entry, but not sure how to extract it.

Windows Cred where assigned report.PNG

Here it is in the table:

Windows Cred where assigned report in table.PNG

Any suggestions other than my creating a custom query?

Thanks

Easily add technician contact information to Solarwinds Maps

$

I was wondering if there was a way to easily enter technician contact information into Solarwinds maps. We would like to make it easy for our help desk to find the contact information of our techs when troubleshooting network performance issues in the field. We are looking for a solution that would make this more automatic. We don't want to edit every map in "Network Atlas" when we get new techs in an area. Please let me know your thoughts. Is anybody else doing this?

Is There A Way To View The Status Of The Entire Network/SolarWinds Environment, At Any Given Moment In History?

$

Hopefully I do not make this an overly complicated question, as I tend to do.

Basically, I need to be able to see exactly how everything in our SolarWinds environment looked at a specific time in the past. Similar to the way NTA shows the current data, or you can select a time frame, and see a snapshot back in time. Also similar to the new NetPath feature, where you can click back on the time line, and see a snapshot of that moment in time.

I know all of the events, alarms, syslog, etc. are still in the db, and that is currently what I use, however, I would like to be able to see all of that data as it existed in NPM/NCM/SAM/etc. at that same moment. I don't really want to have to setup something in WPM to trigger a screenshot every time an alert, or event trigger.

While I may just be a horrible searcher, I did search for similar topics, but was unable to locate anything useful.

So, is there some hidden gem, best practice, secret code, or even a blatantly obvious feature, that I have missed? Or, does this need to be turned into a feature request?

Here is a link to a post that is as close to the same topic as I could find...
Historical View of Applications

And here is a link to the feature request I created:

HTTP/HTTPs Post through a proxy

I would like to send an HTTP Post Alert Action from alerts to our cloud based alert platform. They have a SOAP API and I have successfully tested the XML body in SOAPui. The only thing stopping me from using this action, is that I need to configure minimal proxy info; host and port.
How do I configure this?

Thanks

Help with asset report

$

Hi All,

The "Inventory Fixed Asset Report" has a lot of what I want - including "Node Name", "Device Type", "Service Tag" and "Manufacturer".  I'd like to add "Network Interfaces" - "Mac Address".  This information is visible on the node's "Asset Inventory" page, under the "Network Interfaces" section, then lists all the interfaces and MAC Addresses.

I can't figure out how to filter the "Inventory Fixed Asset Report" for only device type = workstation, and then add the MAC address.

Should I be doing this in the web report section?  Do I need to go on the Orion server and futz with the database tools to build some sort of query?  It's certainly not as intuitive as the rest of NPM.

Thanks!

Search Customer Properties based on "Empty" Field

$

Howdy team, this is my first post to Thwack.  I am not a programmer and I am new to SW.  We are installing NPM 12.0.

I am trying to create a group that tracks certain custom property fields which are "Empty".  The purpose of this is to identify new devices without proper information easily and efficiently.  It is must more efficient in SQL to do a search for a MATCH, verses DOES NOT MATCH.

I created a Custom Property called "Region" that is

1. Test

2. Required Property

3. drop-down list

Background: I have some Nodes without this Property filled in.  However, I can't perform a search for the nodes that do not have the field filled out.  Below is an attempt to create a build a Group with the Region field blank.  We will have several thousand nodes, and I want my searches to be efficient for SQL.

Is there a way to search for a custom property that is empty?

NetPath Accuracy

I have a Netpath connection from my Solarwinds Orion server to a customer.  This first connection on the path shows a 30% packet loss w/ 13ms latency.  This is my local firewall.  Pinging the firewall from my Solarwinds Orion server directly reports back 1ms, and no packet loss.  Any ideas?  The reason in the image for the subnet change - this firewall has multiple LAN and WAN addresses.  I'm assuming NPM is using the default LAN address, even though Solarwinds is using 10.101.101.1 to get out.  To verify it's not a routing issue I've also pinged 10.0.1.1 from Solarwinds and received the same result from pinging 10.101.101.1 - low latency and no packet loss.

When you installed NPM, did you add Nodes manually or did you run discovery?

We would like to improve user experience and for such reason I'd like to better understand if our users prefers INITIALLY to add nodes manually or run product network discovery in order to import devices to NPM

ping node from NPM

$

Hi all,

how can you make Solarwinds NPM ping a host device in steps of 30sec and ping 10 concecutive times?

Im currently using SmokePing because I cannot seem to get Solarwinds to tell me when the device is not pingable when something happens to the link. I have the node status polling set to 10sec and callect statistics to 1minute and those are the lowest settings possible...

Can't this be further customized for critical devices that are not SNMP based?

I had 2 outages this morning, which Smokeping told me exactly what time and how many packets lost, yet solarwinds never alerted me, no logs, nothing. As if nothing ever happened...>?

Thanks
