Hi,

 

I am looking for few plans and perquisites for below process can you please help me out for the same?

 

[1] for installing patches on the existing environment ( looking for SolarWinds patches-process)

[2] for the upgrade/migration test and prod. to server 2016 and SQL 2016:  Plan to migrate test and prod. SolarWinds platform servers from 2012 R2 to Server 2016 & Migrating/upgradation the SQL (database) to SQL 2016?

[3] What perquisites should be followed before doing SolarWinds windows (from 2012 R2 to 2016) servers and SQL databases (2014 R2 to 2016)?


Solarwinds Needs Reboot Every 3 days

Since upgrading to NPM12.3 a couple of weeks ago our SolarWinds system now seems to hang every couple of days and we need to reboot the server in order resolve the issue.

 

When trying to access the Server via the webpage we get the error below. I installed the latest hotfix bundle earlier in the week but the problem persists.

 

I'm seeing on another thread that other people are also experiencing this, but it's not clear whether a fix was found?

 

Netflow report for bandwidth or utilization between source and destination

Hi

I need to create a report for the Netflow data, that will show me the amount of data passed between source and destination, for example, the amount of data (in bytes) passed between an IP in the organization and the mail server in the last 7 days or 24 hours, or any IP to any application. I did not find something like that in the reports, or I missed it if it is there.

 

Any Idea?

Hi, After a bit of help if I may ?.

 

We have 5 sites and each site has 2 WAN facing routers via 2 separate providers.

 

I am trying to put a NOC view (or similar) together for the management team that shows just the WAN interface in each site but just the total (or peak) bps.

At present all I can find/show is peak receive and peak transmit and by the time you have 4 of those per site it gets a bit messy , I don't seem to be able to see any other options ?

Delete Old Notes from Node Summary

Is there a way to delete or even edit notes that are on a node's summary page? We are able to create them, just not remove them once they are "stale."

Group Member Added/Removed Frequently??

I've noticed recently that one of our SolarWinds groups keep regularly losing and gaining a member, but I don't know why this is. Is there anyway to ascertain which member(s) are getting added/lost to try and figure out what is happening. This is happening when I'm confident there are no new nodes being added or removed on the system.

 

Any ideas? Could this be a bug? The behavior started about a week ago (I suspect after I applied the latest HF bundle) but none of our other groups are doing this....

 

APC UPS Monitoring with ORION PLATFORM 2018.2

Hi Everyone,

 

With the release of 2018.2, APC UPS monitoring is now natively supported. I have been trying to figure out why some of my APC UPS units are reporting correctly, and others are not. I am referring to the Power Control Unit Status section of node details, SNMP is functioning but returned unknown status' for a few fields. While the other fields work as expected. Based on my environment, I have been able to limit the problem to SMARTUPS2 devices (aka UPS Network Management Card 2). Where my other older UPS units, like Smart-UPS 3000 RM XL, work without issue. In the example below, I provided one working and one not working node. The battery does not need replacement on this particular node, but returns wrong.

Top 10 report by site widget

I've created a basic report that gives me the Top 10 Interfaces by Percent Utilization to a specific site.

 

My question is, how do I get this information displayed as a widget on the summary page for that site?

 

I can get the top 10 for all sites to display but it doesn't give me an option to edit......although when I go to Network ---> Network Top 10 I'm able to edit, but I want it on the site's page

Default Domain

When we log in to the Solarwinds web page with AD credentials we have to provide Domain\  before the username.

Is there a way to set a default domain for users so we would not need to provide this.

Device Poller chart for Wireless SSIDs & Clients

I'm trying to setup a chart to show our SSIDs and how many clients are associated with each.  I have a Node Tabular UDP table working, but can't get the info into a chart.  I have tried various options using a UDP summary chart and a Multiple UDP chart.  Below is a sample of my table I have working, but I want to be able to see history and a graph/chart.

 

 

The best I can get on a chart is choosing bsndot11essssid, but then it lists the number of the SSID and not the name as a label so I don't know really which one is which.  See below.  I can kinda guess by looking at my table, but that is not convenient.

Hi, usually I would go straight to create a support case but since custom portal is not available at the moment so I thought I will try my luck here.

In addition I cannot connect to Network Atlas (neither from remote location or directly from server, I have tried both local SolarWinds admin account and my domain account). We get the following error: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to connect to the server. Please contact support." I have checked our programs and features based on one of the KBs and we have only newest IPAM version installed.

 

I have tried following so far but nothing helps:

-Run configuration Wizard

-Run Database maintenance

-Restart all SW servers (we have database separated from main server and one ape)

-Reinstall Network Atlas

-Delete content of localhost folder from Temp\SolarWinds

(SolarWinds services were restarted after each action).

 

Maybe some of you had similar issues and will be able to help.

I've been assigned by my office to work on Solar winds to update maps, nodes and all that is it there to do on solar winds.

Am new to this so would really appreciate assistance on how i can quickly grab info and update all that needs to be done on my network.

 

What i should do first or how to go about this process.

We received Device up alerts out of no where

Hi all

 

I need help on this, I quite new withsolarwinds, I would like to know the location of event logs from NPM

like actions taken when NPM sends the node down emails and reset action email to the emails defined

 

Because what happened was that we suddenly received emails out of no where that 4 devices are up

but when I checked those devices, they never went down in first place

 

Please let me know

Hi all,

 

I created an UNDP to retrieve the status of several VPN tunnels from a Fortigate.

 

The problem is, the table containing this information can be displayed in the "Node Details" page only.

 

I have created a view containing several maps and I need this table to be displayed there

 

Creating a custom table doesn't help because I am unable to add any UNDP created - only some pre-configured UNDPs show up there.

 

Does anybody have experience with this?

Configuring Cisco UCS Monitoring

Hey all, I'm in the process of adding our new (and first) UCS systems into Solarwinds, and there are a few questions coming up.

 

A little searching produced various bits of info, but much of it was from 2013 and prior.  Other threads present very limited sections of the process, so I thought we could get a thread going that covers the whole thing.

We're starting with 3 UCS chassis, and two fabric interconnects.  Solarwinds NPM is running version 11.5.2.

 

Configuration steps:

1. UCSM has been configured for LDAP authentication with our corporate AD domain.  Connectivity to UCSM has been configured over HTTPS, SNMP has been configured with a secure community string (fun fact, UCSM didn't like the "@" character in its community string), and a domain service account has been established with global read permissions to UCSM.

 

2. IP addresses for each of the fabric interconnects have been configured and noted, and the virtual IP for UCSM has also been configured and noted.  For the purpose of this example, we'll call them:

- Fab1 : x.x.x.1

- Fab2 : x.x.x.2

- UCSM : x.x.x.3

 

First Issue (Possibly Answered)  How are the nodes supposed to be added into Solarwinds?  Most instructions refer to adding the primary FI running UCSM first, configured to poll for UCSM information.  But if you do that, and UCSM switches to the passive FI, won't you lose UCSM monitoring?  Alternatively, I thought I could add UCSM by its virtual IP, but doing that still populates the resources from the FI its currently associated with.

 

Answer (Maybe): 3. I decided to add each FI as a node without UCSM polling, and then I added the Mgmt VIP with UCSM polling.  I configured each FI to poll all interfaces, and I configured the Mgmt node to only poll non-interface elements.  The idea here was for the Mgmt node to focus on UCS polling and let the FI nodes handle interface issues.  Polling some of the stuff at the top of the list might be redundant, but I wasn't sure if any of it was necessary for UCS blade info.

 

I'd recommend a service account for the UCS Manager Credentials section, and it will obviously need at least read access to UCSM.  When entering domain credentials, you have to specify the domain, but in the format that the domain is linked in UCSM (refer to the LDAP config in UCSM), AND with "ucs-" in front of it.

 

So for example, if your active directory domain is mydomain.corporate.realm, and you've added this into UCSM and called it just "ADmydomain", the credential has to be entered as "ucs-ADmydomain\mysvcaccount".

Fun fact, I had issues with the service account at first, so I added the Mgmt node without UCS polling initially, and then added the UCS polling once I resolved the service account problem.  (Ended up having to launch UCSM as the service account one time to register the account in UCSM.)  Doing this, the Mgmt node never successfully displayed UCS blade info.  I deleted the Mgmt node, then re-added it and included the UCS polling as part of the initial node creation.  Worked fine that time.

 

4. Once both FIs are added, you should be able to view the node that UCSM is active on and see the UCS Overview page element (ours showed up in the Network tab by default).

 

Second Issue: UCS Overview displays the status of each FI, and the names of the enclosures and blades, but the status of the blades doesn't populate.

I'll update this post with the additional steps and more pretty screencaps as we go.

 

Edit 1: 1/21/2016: Added a best-guess answer to the question of how to add the FIs and UCSM.  Raised the second issue of blades not populating.

 

Edit 2: 8/8/2016: It's been a while, but I'm giving this another go.  I think I found a better way of adding the FI's and the Mgmt VIP, so that info has been added.

Trap viewer takes too long time

Hi,

 

I am working to reduce the time to see the events on orion console. In order to do this job, I am testing NPM performance.

I was very surprised when I found out that SolarWinds Trap Viewer takes 23 second (medium) to display the current traps. I confronted the same test with other trap receiver tools (no SolarWinds and opensource), and they take about 1 second (the same of specific device log).

Solarwinds describes this Trap Viewer as "REAL-TIME", but I think 23 seconds of delay is not real-time considering that we are not talking about alerts or event, but we are talking about the row datas (no elaboration, no SQL query...).

What do you think about? Someone can explain to me how it works? Someone has found faster time?
