Unable to add a node via SNMPv3

Hello Guys,

 

We just purchased NPA, NTA, UDT, NCM, Engineer Tool set, and IP Address Manager. I'm trying to add my network switches, which are Dell Force10, to Solarwinds Orion.

The problem that I am having is I could not add a switch to Orion via SNMPv3. When I checked the log on my switch Force10 S50v, I got this SNMP authentication failed error.

 

Apr 30 12:12:51.756 EDT: %STKUNIT0-M:CP %SNMP-3-SNMP_AUTH_FAIL: SNMP Authentication failure for SNMP request from host 172.16.0.50

 

The current switch config is this:

snmp-server engineID local 0000000007

snmp-server enable traps

snmp-server group GROUP01 3 priv read SNMPv3-VIEW

snmp-server user USER01 GROUP01 3 encrypted auth sha SHA-PASSWORD priv des56 DES-PASSWORD

 

The previous config was this:

snmp-server enable traps

snmp-server group GROUP01 3 priv read VIEW access USER01

snmp-server host 172.16.0.50 traps version 3 priv MGT02 udp-port 162

snmp-server user USER01 GROUP01 3 auth sha SHA-PASSWORD priv des56 DES-PASSWORD

snmp-server view VIEW 1.3.6 included

 

Neither of these configs works with Orion. I have the screenshots of the Orion config. I have re-entered the password for both devices, but no luck.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solarwinds is still not stable

The other thread is closed so I figured I would start a new one I usually get more help here than actually contacting support.

 

So same issues as before but instead of the server not responding in 36 hours or so it took maybe a week but it is the SAME issues. 

 

1. Server stopped sending alerts out sometime around 11AM on the 4th.

2. Logged onto server and opened Orion service manager and both the module engine and the administration service were going back and forth between running and stopping. 

3. Orion could not connect to SQL

4.  I have some alerts that at are going out but not sure if they are legit or not. 

5. After the reboot I notice that a good chunk of my nodes interfaces are 'unknown' this looks like it fixes itself but again something else going on. 

 

I have applied the 'hotfix' that you all pushed out to try to fix this.

I have done the change from streaming to buffered

I have done the registry change for the ports

The only thing I have not done is revert the snap shots back to June 14th prior to the update so Solarwinds is stable again. 

At this point I am going to schedule a task in VM Ware to reboot the server every night.  That is pretty much the only way I will know Solarwinds will actually work.

Unable to Retrieve Excel Files Report with Scheduler using SSL CA Certificate

Hi everyone, hope your day are going well.

 

We have an issue about the report scheduler on Solarwinds NPM here, we unable to attach report file on excel type in the body email with scheduler and the error message was "Unable to retrieve url: https://myfqdnNPMserver.mydomain.co.id:443/Orion/Report.aspx?ReportID=176 using Excel type.".

I already tried to change the server name using IP Address of Solarwinds Server instead of FQDN, but it's still facing the same issue.

I checked the SSL binding on the IIS Server and also make sure that the Orion website is listening on all IP addresses as resolution from https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Unable_to_retrieve_URL_using_Excel_type and https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Unable_to_retrieve_the_PDF_CSV_or_URL_of_scheduled_reports given, I can confirmed the binding is already correct and IP address is set to All Unassigned with port 443.

We are using SSL Certificate generated from our internal CA server here for the https binding, then I tried to change the SSL certificate binding with Self-Certificate generate by Solarwinds Server itself and then the scheduler is working well (excel file could attached on the email).

I already put the SSL Certificate given by our CA Server to trusted ones in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities (re: https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Add_certificate_to_Trusted_ones) in the Solarwinds Server and change the binding back to SSL Cert given by the CA Server, but the error is still happening.

Somehow this issue happened only if we set scheduler to attach XLS and CSV files, for the HTML and PDF it's working well.

Is there any advice related this issue? Our company has a concern about SSL Certificate that it must use certificate from our internal CA Server generated so it's no allowed to using Self-Certificate.

BGP neighbor down " caption" attribute

Hi,

 

I have configured BGP neighbor down alert but getting 'Configuration Item' blank in SNOW.

 

An email alert is working well. but ServiceNow ticket doesn't hold CI name. I tried with Caption (Node), caption( Router) and Neighbor IP one by one but no luck.

APC UPS Monitoring with ORION PLATFORM 2018.2

Hi Everyone,

 

With the release of 2018.2, APC UPS monitoring is now natively supported. I have been trying to figure out why some of my APC UPS units are reporting correctly, and others are not. I am referring to the Power Control Unit Status section of node details, SNMP is functioning but returned unknown status' for a few fields. While the other fields work as expected. Based on my environment, I have been able to limit the problem to SMARTUPS2 devices (aka UPS Network Management Card 2). Where my other older UPS units, like Smart-UPS 3000 RM XL, work without issue. In the example below, I provided one working and one not working node. The battery does not need replacement on this particular node, but returns wrong.

Solarwinds to SNOW integration

Hi All,

 

I am aware that there is a default connector which helps in connecting Solarwinds to SNOW and there is also another way which is from SNOW wherein it pulls the data from Solarwinds over API.

 

My question is, in the Solarwinds event logs, we get lot of activities logged like interface name changed, ifspeed changed etc.. which are not the actual alerts. Since SNOW pulls everything from events table, it directly processes these events as alerts in SNOW. Now everytime we will have to write rules for such scenarios so that this doesnt result into a ticket. Is there anyway to avoid these events getting logged in Solarwinds?

Multi modules: Small deployment for NPM+NTA+VMAN

Hi,

 

Newbie for latest VMAN and NTA 4.4 and i received a task to complete the solarwinds project which the modules involved is

1. NPM 250

2. NTA 250

3. VMAN 8

*all latest version

 

Customer requested for system requirement so i told them basically they need 3 servers

1x server NPM+NTA+VMAN

1x sql server

1x flowstorage

*declare as option A

 

But personally i think it should be okay if i create another with

1x server NPM+NTA+VMAN

1x sql server+flowstorage

*as a option B

reason why? VM is flexible to upgrade CPU & Memory

 

Orion server

CPU: 8 cores or better

RAM: 14 GB or better

Storage: 150 GB, 15,000 RPM

1 x 1 Gb dedicated NIC

Windows Server 2016 64-bit Standard or Datacenter Edition

 

SQL server+Flow Storage

Quad core processor or better

just my concern, what will happen after 6 months because im not sure which option i should propose in documentation  based on license purchased?

Hi All,

 

We are planning to upgrade the Solarwinds NPM 12.1 to 12.3, SAM 6.4 to 6.6.1 and SRM 6.4 to 6.6 running on Windows 2012 R2 and Database MSSQL 2014.

 

Since NPM, SAM and SRM latest versions are not compatible to run on Windows 2012 and MSSQL 2014, can anyone suggest me, how I can take it forward with step by step procedure. I have 9 additional pollers and please consider them while providing the step by step procedure.

Dev to Live Migration question.

Apologies if this is a dumb newbie question.... but I'm just getting started with this particular product set.

 

We have a development environment where we are trialling various aspects of the SolarWinds tooling (NPM, NCM, NTA, SAM HA etc).

 

This gives us a good feel for the product set, and as part of this we are looking to understand how to  move some of the configuration into Live operation.

 

We have stringent operational Quality Control and Change Management procedures in place, so we need to be able to replicate any customisations in our live environment - without copying an entire database or having to re-type the configurations. Essentially we need to be able to  export then import various configurations - but not the actual individual device/application settings. As in most commercial organisations our systems (dev & live) are air-gapped, so we want to maximise the control of what appears in Live.

 

For example the types of things that we would need to be ported through to live would be:

  • definitions for Windows User Groups and permissions within SolarWinds
  • Menu customisations
  • application templates
  • Polling configurations
  • etc.

 

Is there a way to do this, ideally as simple as possible

 

All suggestions gratefully received - Thanks in advance

IP Domain name

Hi All,

 

In regards to all Cisco devices I monitor on Solarwinds. I want Solarwinds to show me just the host name of the device but it combines the host name and IP domain name together. Does anyone know if there is a way fo Solarwinds to just display the host name of the device?

Soap Api Call to BMC remedy 8.1

Hi Everyone,

 

I am using NPM12.2 and needs to integrate BMC remedy 8.1 . BMC team has provided the https-Post SOAP URL and I have tested it with SoapUI tool and it is working fine to create the incident. But when I tried the same XML code in NPM alert action in http-Post body, the action is successful but nothing happens in Remedy and no incident is created.

 

Please help urgently if any one experienced it.
