Interface Capacity not matching with data

Currently, we have a query for pulling interface capacity from the InterfacesForecastCapacity table.  We get results (seen below), but if we compare it to the Min/Max/Avg bps In/Out chart on the interface view we see that the the forecasted capacity from our report is not falling in line with the actual usage.  So the thought is that the report should be actually showing that the interface is closer to capacity than it says than the showing XX amount of days if the chart is showing that utilization/usage is peaking several times.

We have traced the tables back to where the forecast capacity is getting its data:

•InterfacesForecastCapacity > InterfaceTraffic_ForecastCoefficients > InterfaceTrafficUtil_Update:

    •• InterfaceTraffic_Hourly, InterfaceTraffic_Daily, InterfaceTraffic_Detail

SolarWinds Two-Way integration with Ticketing Systems

Hello

I have a couple of questions:

Q1:  Does Orion recommend (even unofficially) any fully automated (without manual coding) 3rd party tool that allows smooth Two-Way integration with Major Ticketing systems like :

- BMC:   Remedy

- HP:      ITSM /  HPSD / HPSM /HPSC,   etc ... ?

- CA:      IT Service Desk

Must guarantee closing Ticket when Node/Interface is Up without delay

Q2: If not, which one would you guys recommend ? Something that really works without push

Thank you

No database connection - Server 2016 issue?

$

Hi

We've got two, seperate Soalrwinds NPM deployments at the moment both running on Server 2016 and both have/had the same issue.  The additional poller connects to the database during configuration but never again.  It gives the event information:

Service was unable to open new database connection when requested.

SqlException: Login failed for user 'sa'.

Connection string - Data Source=<SWL ListenerIP;Initial Catalog=master;User ID=sa;Password=*******;Pooling=False

The thing is, the username and password IS correct and the same error occurs with a windows domain account.  The database shows as having connected during the configuration wizard but never does again.  One setup did this from the off and the other after working for a few months.  The newer one, we resolved by creating a new database but the other is now full of nodes and config etc and it would seem the issue can occur even after it has worked for a while.

We have never had this before and are wondering if it is an issue with Server 2016 perhaps? Does anyone have any idea?

Many thanks

The User Experience group wants to see how you've customized your Orion to create your own NOC view, or NOC views you like and are using from other products.  What do you like about your NOC view? What challenges, frustrations or issues do you have with it?--Show us your NOC view either here OR email it directly to me at kellie.mecham@solarwinds.com and share your NOC view stories by August 10 and we'll award you 500 thwack points for sharing.

UPDATE: we're no longer awarding points for this, but it's become a really popular post.  Please continue to share how you create NOC views, pictures of them, etc with each other as there has been clear value to users in seeing what other users do, but UX can no longer award points for this.

Does your organization use Mobile Device Management or MDM?

With the explosion of smart mobile devices, both tablets and phones and end users wanting to connect them for email, remote access (VPN), wireless etc. How are you handling this?  Does your organization even see this as a problem?  What level of control are you looking for?  Do you care if they have apps like DropBox are installed on them and uploading corporate files without your knowledge?

When I talk about Mobile Device Management I mean specifically things like:

  • Remotely manage and setup end users mobile devices (i.e. Google Android or Apple iOS) with the settings for service such as email access, wireless, VPN etc.
  • Enforce corporate security standards and best practices such as ensuring a pass-code is set or disabling certain feature or functions on the device like the camera
  • Ability to remotely wipe a device if lost or stolen
  • Report on types of devices, the hardware and software installed on them in your environment
  • Track users or stolen devices via GPS

Your Thoughts on Thin AP Alerting?

We're looking into how thin AP monitoring works today and would like your input.  How does thin AP alerting and other aspects of monitoring thin APs work for you?  Are there areas where you feel we're doing good or bad?  What would you add or remove about our current functionality.

I'm interested in your thoughts!

Orion NPM 10.6 reset admin password?

Hello, I am trying to reset the Admin password for the Orion web console.  I cannot login, and I read about how to reset it using the database manager.  I followed the instructions here: Orion NPM Web Console Password Reset

but this did not work.  I keep getting invalid username/password.  I also tried replacing the Admin password hash with the Guest hash, which is the default (blank), but it still did not work.  Does anybody know how to reset the admin password?  I should also note, the Admin account was disabled, and the fields AccountSID and GroupInfo were blank (not NULL), and I changed them to NULL to reflect the other accounts.

Nodes with multiple IP's best practice

Does Solarwinds have a recommended or best practice way to monitor a node (Windows server) with multiple IP's?  It could be multiple IP's on one or more physical adapters, or a single IP's on multiple physical adapters.

Thanks,
David

Polling Engine Update Order Post Migration

$

Hi all,

I have recently migrated our SolarWinds environment to new hosts with new hostnames and IPs.  After the migration I noticed that the order for updating my polling engines had changed.  While I don't know that this affects the environment in any way, my OCD is keeping me up a night!

I have now performed this migration a few times (for reasons not related to this post) and I've been looking at the various tables in the database.  The first table, modified in accordance with the migration instructions from SolarWinds, is dbo.Engines.  In this list my servers are listed in their correct numerical order with EngineID for the servers in this order: primary - 2, 1st APE - 7, 2nd APE - 8, 3rd APE - 9, 4th APE - 10.  However, once I installed SolarWinds and began installing the additional polling engines, I was instructed to install in this order 1st APE, 3rd APE, 2nd APE, 4th APE.

I'm assuming that SolarWinds gets the installation and update order from the dbo.OrionServers because the column OrionServerID in that list is primary - 1, 1st APE - 2, 3rd APE - 3, 2nd APE - 4, 4th APE - 5.

Again, I don't know if this has an effect on overall system functionality but, unless I missed something during the initial installation on the new servers, I'm not understanding why this has happened.

Thanks!

Are your Orion server and SQL database server in the same Active Directory domain?

When you installed NPM, did you add Nodes manually or did you run discovery?

We would like to improve user experience and for such reason I'd like to better understand if our users prefers INITIALLY to add nodes manually or run product network discovery in order to import devices to NPM

To SaaS or not to SaaS, that is the question.

Please help us understand your organization's thinking on this topic by selecting how much you agree or disagree with the following statement:

"My company would never purchase a SaaS-based monitoring tool to monitor our on-premises IT infrastructure."

Need dynamic interface chart on the Node Details view - which resource?

$

I want to place a chart on the node details view that shows historical traffic information for specific interfaces on that node. Some questions: What resource would I use? How would I auto-select the appropriate interfaces on the node being viewed? Would I use a Yes/Mo custom property to flag the interfaces on each node that should appear on the chart?

Thanks for any help.
