Can NPM process alerts from SNMP Traps from custom applications?

We have an internal client that wants to send SNMP traps from their custom application monitoring tool to our Orion instances.

The client wants specs for creating their new custom traps, but I am not entirely sure that NPM can fire trap alerts from custom traps sent from an external source (not managed node in the NPM system processing the trap).

 

If anyone has experience in this area I'd appreciate your input.

 

Products currently installed on our systems:

 

Orion Platform 2015.1.1, SAM 6.2.0, QoE 2.0, IPAM 4.3, NCM 7.3.2, NPM 11.5.1, NTA 4.1.0, IVIM 2.0.1

I want the values to display in the profile of the node with gauges, I've searched the forum and tried searching some OIDs and not having much luck.

 

Doesn't look like the included Undps are doing it for me.

Проблема следующая, данный момент когда я вхожу в All Maps все карты видны но не обновляются как мне решить этот вопрос?

I have a CSV file which i wand to import into Solarwinds,

I`f exported the file from Cisco Prime Infrastructure and i hope that it is possible to import this file.

May be the file needs to be tweekt a bit.

We just pulled a new Linux server into Orion NPM and this is what shows up.

Sonar Scanning Wrong IP's

I'm using Sonar for network discovery, have input all the ip ranges or subnets for the areas of our network I want to scan, and I'm seeing during the scan it's scanning IP's I've not setup for that scan.  At first I thought maybe it's doing this for whatever reason but the scan has been running much longer than I imagine it should.  Any ideas as to why it's scanning IP's I never setup for the scan? (10.x.x.x , privates IP's, I haven't setup to scan any of these, refer below)

SNMP poll on non default snmp port 161

Hello,

 

I would like to request for your support on this.

 

I am having problem adding a device which runs SNMP on port 8001. The polling fails.

In the captured trace on Orion side I can see two UPD pkgs with the destination port marked as vcom-tunnel.

Based on IANA port assignments this seems ok.

In the trace there is clearly a udp pkg going from Orion to destination device and a udp "response" coming back in.

However the polling does not succeed.

Is there some extra configuration I need to do on Orion side besides entering the actual port number in the SNMP Port field?

Based on below instructions, it should be straight forward.

Any chance that Orion does not "understand" the response because it is not coming from not default port 8001?

 

I have no problem adding devices to NPM which run on default SNMP 161.

In this case there is clearly a  get-request and a get-response message.

I believe the reason I see clearly SNMP protocol messages is because of wireshark settings.

 

SW version: Orion NPM 11.5.

The 11.0 release just occurred today, but we're already hard at work looking at items for future release. We have some game-changing new features in the works, so please stay tuned. Kindly find below list of items we are working on:

  • Improved performance and decreased resource load times via analysis with SolarWinds DPA

Advanced Alerts - test alert continues to send

After successfully adding a node, I created an advanced alert to check for node down. The trigger action is to write to NetPerMon event log and send an email. The email is defined as my cell number@provider. I tested the alert once and immediately received several text messages to my mobile phone. I had only expected one and thought this as unusual but ignored it. I have been receiving several text messages throughout the day and evening and believed this to be an error with the alert. When I look at the Advanced Alert configuration, I cannot find the alert that I had created earlier. There is no audit records, event logs, or indication of this alert firing.

 

I am not certain where to look or how to stop this text message. I am looking for any help in getting this resolved.

Disabled Hardware Health Alarms Re-enabling Themselves

Okay everyone so here is my issue. I work for a large ISP out of Minnesota and we just stood up a brand new all Cisco network consisting entirely of ASR 9K routers, specifically 9001's and 9010's. When first adding them to Orion before we upgraded to 11.5 we ran into a lot of hardware health alarms, mainly relating to transmit and receive power levels. When heard about the new feature in 11.5 and that we should have the ability to disable and fine tune thresholds on individual alarms. After we upgraded to 11.5 and started to add the bulk of our new routers into NPM and NCM I noted the alarms that were triggered and attempted to disable the individual alarms.

 

At first it looked like the alarms were starting to clear, it did take quite a while for some of them but I thought that may be the case. Then I started to run into a few devices that the sensors just would not disable. I would disable them and exit out then go back in right away and check and it would say disabled, but after a fair amount of time went by, long enough that it should have cleared, I would check again and it would say enabled again. Also about 80% of the alarms that had cleared after I disabled them all or a sudden popped back into alarm and all the sensors were re-enabled.

 

I tried just about everything I could think of and was unable to find any posts even slightly related to my issue at that time. I do see a few threads now with issues that are kind of similar, but they all seem to be relating to servers, but my issue is with major core transport routers. I did manage to find one way to get the alarms to clear that worked a majority of the time, but is in now way a fix for the issue. if I went in an edited the threshold and forced the sensor to up they would normally clear, but now they are no longer visible like they would be if they were disabled.

 

Has anyone experienced any similar issues with IP Transport related equipment or with routers of the same or similar models? If you have any ideas please share because I'm open for just about anything at this point. I opened a support case regarding the issue, but since they said they are pretty backed up I figured I would throw this out there and see if I got any ideas before I got a response from them.

Can't see unmanaged interfaces in custom table

So I had an issue that I though somebody might be able to help me out with since I am not very good or familiar with SQL programming language. I have created a custom window on our home page that displays all current nodes that are unmanaged. My issue is that it only shows the nodes and I have tried just about anything I could think of or find to try and get it to display the unmanaged interfaces as well. Does anyone know of a way to do this or a SQL query that I may not have tried or thought of that would work? For the life of me I just can't think of anything. Thanks for any help you can give!

Custom view user permission issue

So I ran into a problem the other day that just doesn't make any sense to me. When we are on the page of any single node that we have monitored we have created custom views depending on the device type. There is one view that all devices have regardless of the device type. We have a view that show the last 10 audit events for the node which proves to be very useful if something pops into alarm because you can see right away whether it had been unmanaged and became remanaged or if it is legitimate. So before our upgrade to 11.5 I had cleaned up all the local users permissions and secured everything as much as I could. At this time my group had all permissions except for report management and admin rights and they were able to see this view just fine. Recently we hired a new person onto our group and he brought up the issue with me that he wasn't able to see that window when it should be there. I tried a couple things which didn't work and just for the heck of it I tried giving him admin rights to see if it would change anything and right away he was able to see it. So next time I saw the other members of my group I checked with them and they were having the same issues.

 

Needless to say I had to give everyone admin rights just to see this one view which to most people would be a big no no. Is it just me or does this seem a little odd? According to my understanding all admin rights really gives you permissions to do is to add, delete, or modify user accounts. Has anyone had or noticed an issue like this as well? Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that I may be missing? Any information would be greatly appreciated!


How to monitor old ups device with serial port

I Have old ups device with serial port and use NetAgent mini to monitor ups.

(NetAgent mini is designed as an ultra-compact and convenient tool to remotely monitor and manage UPS system .Mega System Technologies)

 

i use universal device poller and add oid for this device.you can download attached file and import to universal device poller.

if dont detect correctly:

1-update NetAgent Firmware(replace .bin file with ftp)

2-update MIBs.cfg from customer portal

Web Console Availability vs Report Availability

Hi,

 

I have rcently noticed discrepancies between the avaiability shown by the web console and a report I have set up to show the average availabiltiy of the previous month, for example the web console shows he availability as being 88.903 but my report shows it as 97.7234 any ideas why this is happening?

Database latency issues due to an unknown query

We've been having db latency issues on NPM v10.7 where the polling delays build up at any time of the day. We've seen it build up during business hours (most of the time) or in the middle of the night and weekends (off hours and not during schedule DB maintenances).  I've also noticed a lot of issues with db maintenance completing or running at all for that matter.


I have raised a case with Solarwinds and was supposedly assigned one of the top engineers but the solution being recommended is upgrading to 11.5.2 which if fairly recent and seem to still have bugs.


Has anyone seen of come across the same issue?


NPM version is v10.7.  I can't and will not upgrade to 11.5.2 due to current issues with it.

Seeing a huge increase in Response Time Alerts since upgrading to NPM 11.5

We upgraded from NPM 11.0.1 to NPM 11.5 two weeks ago. Since the upgrade we are seeing a huge increase in Response Time Alerts for our remote sites. No changes have been made to the network and when we see these alerts and call remotes that show in alert they are not seeing any issues. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. Could it be that we are experiencing latency with the poller?

Cisco ISR 4300 series not showing model number in NPM

Hello all -

 

We have recently been upgrading from 3900 series to 4300 series which runs IOS XE.

 

Somewhere along the way, the Machine type has become only 'Cisco' rather than 'Cisco 4331' as it use to show when we had the 3945's installed.

 

Looking at SNMP responses, it looks like maybe Orion was parsing the SysDesc to gather that information.

 

From 2921:

Name/OID: Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(24)T2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

 

From 4331:

Cisco IOS Software, ISR Software (X86_64_LINUX_IOSD-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.4(3)S1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3)

 

In looking in the product mib,  .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2068 doesn't exist.  I'm thinking that's a Cisco MIB update?
