Sizing for centralize monitoring

Hi,

 

Good day!

 

need help on the sizing for centralize monitoring the remote site. our monitoring team is reside on different region and we are monitoring the clients in Europe. since the primary poller already in different region, we plan to add additional poller engine in Europe. this will reduce the traffic load whereby all the client will not directly connected to the primary poller.

 

question is, for the database, do we need to have different database for each poller? or we can use the same database for the primary and additional polling engine? the solution that im looking at is NPM, NTA, Storage resource Manager, SAM and DPA.

Solarwinds Data Processor

I'm currently trying to fix an Orion Additional Polling Engine where the Solarwinds Data Processor service stops with the following error message:

 

Application: SolarWinds.DataProcessor.exe

Framework Version: v4.0.30319

Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.

Exception Info: System.OutOfMemoryException

Stack:

   at System.Runtime.Fx+IOCompletionThunk.UnhandledExceptionFrame(UInt32, UInt32, System.Threading.NativeOverlapped*)

   at System.Threading._IOCompletionCallback.PerformIOCompletionCallback(UInt32, UInt32, System.Threading.NativeOverlapped*)

 

 

We've got 3 additional polling Engines and a main poller. The problem affects only one polling engine. The polling engines have the same hardware specifications.

 

The polling rates on the Polling engines are around 80%. The polling engines have been working at this rate for the past few months but the problem with this poller only started in the last two weeks (no associated config changes).

 

I've run through the process described here SolarWinds Knowledge Base :: Collector Data Processor and Collector Polling Controller start and stop intermittently but this did not resolve the problem.

 

Does anyone have any ideas what else to check?

Group View member nodes list

I'm trying to generate a list of all the nodes that are members of a top level parent group and I haven't had any success.

 

Here is how my groups are structured:

 

1. Main parent group for each business site.

2. 2 child groups, one for LAN-based nodes and one for WAN-based nodes

 

All the Nodes have a custom property for the "site code" of each business location applied to them.  This custom property matches the name of the parent group exactly.

 

The group members Resource only shows the WAN and LAN child groups and does not show those group's nodes.

 

Any ideas on how to implement this?

Repeating Email alerts after acknowledgement

I have setup a down node alert.  The trigger action has send an email alert.  Under Execution settings I have enabled "Repeat this action every X minutes until the alert is acknowledged".  The issue is even though I acknowledge the alert, I am still getting the email alert every X mins.  Is there another setting somewhere I'm missing?


The alert checks for node status every minute. 

Reset condition is: Reset this alert when trigger condition is no longer true (Recommended)

High CPU usage SWjobengineworker2.exe

Hello,

 

Some recent days, our monitor server is running with high CPU.

I have checked and see that it's due to solarwinds as the attached file

Almost CPU performance using by SWjobengineworker2.exe process.

 

Could you guys help to take a look please?

Interface Graphs above 100% stop graphing

I am running version 10.7 and am having an issue with graphing Ethernet interfaces.  When I graph my Metro Ethernet WAN port it stops graphing if I bust my rate limits.  If I set my bandwidth to be 50Mbps on a Gig Ethernet port it will stop graphing anything above the 50Mbps.  When we were running 9.x it was able to graph above the bandwidth that I would enter for the interface and show readings above 100%.

 

Is there a setting that would allow the system to graph above the declared interface speeds?

Chrome Scrolling when using Custom Properties

This has been an annoyance for some time, and for some reason, I've finally been motivated enough to post here.

 

We use custom properties to help with alerting and sorting of our nodes. When I add a new node, I have to select certain values from pre-set custom variables (e.g. City, Airport Code, HWTier). When I select one of these values, the page scrolls down to what I can only assume is an anchor point (the bottom of the "Back" "OK, Add Node" and "Cancel" buttons is lined up with the bottom of the browser window). Its really annoying, because I need to actually scroll back up so that I can set the next value.

 

I'm using Chrome and NPM 11.5.2. It doesn't happen in IE11.

Email me when node goes down

I have a customer who signs on to Solarwinds to monitor his nodes. If his node goes down I want to email the customer.  Do I do this with alerts, if so how? Or is there some other way
this is done.

I am having an issue with being able to create a UDP for a PaloAlto device that does not show up in the all nodes list. This is the latest software. I was able to test on my old version and it worked fine.

Replacing self signed certs within Orion

Hello everyone!

 

Today I'm looking into replacing the self-signed certificates within Orion to ones generated by a CA within the corporation. I've found the following post interesting but not sure if this could be done for all self-signed certificates within Orion.

 

Change SolarWinds Information Services SSL Certificate

 

We're looking into using CA issues certs in everything from WinRM connections for SAM AppInsight for Exchange to Poller communications. Is this supported and do we have any good documentation on the procedures and pitfalls of doing this?

Virtual Machines in italics/Already being managed by NPM

Follow me with this scenario.

 

  1. You have a bunch of VM's that you added manually to NPM. 
  2. Later on you decide you want to monitor the ESX hosts, clusters etc that they reside on... so you add them. 
  3. After the initial poll and gathering of host/guest data all of those VM's managed already in NPM appear with italics. 
  4. Upon clicking on one of these VM's in italics you are prompted with a "Node Not Managed" message and asked whether or not you would like to monitor this node.
  5. Then if you proceed anyway and continue to add the node another message lets you know that the node is already being managed by NPM.

 

Is there a way to sync up what is happening here so that the nodes already managed by NPM do not appear in italics?  It would be great if you could get to a node via the Virtualization Summary tree structure.

Log file filling up

One of my Logs folders, specifically C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Hardwarehealth, has over 6 GB of files in it.  Some of them date back 3 months by Last Modified Date.  Can I delete all or some of these without causing Orion problems?

newbie with less than 30 PCs, no server

1.  retired, volunteer at a 501c3 that has less than 30 PCs with two buildings next to each other (one is two stories, the other is one story).

2.  a comcast business gateway in each building.

3.  in one building is a tenant very small private 501c3 k-12, I have two wireless routers on their floor (2nd floor).

4.  the school will eventually use tablets and a few computers to do Khan Academy streaming content.

5.  I am the person that keeps the PCs running, all running windows 7 and all older equipment.

6.  I have another volunteer job teaching senior citizens about computers at two locations including this one.  Have been doing this for almost three years.

7.  Teaching seniors is email, internet, beginning computers,... started last year to teach google apps and the cloud...

8.  Kids just started to go to school in this building and am guessing they will be schooled in google apps...

9.  another mission for the 501c3 that owns the property is on the first floor with the school, very small staff but older computers

10. I am also on the board of the main 501c3 and have reconfigred both buildings as described to get the school into the 2 story building...

11. I usually carry around a chromebook laptop and have suggested that if we need to do a serious upgrade of the PCs then we go to chromebooks...

 

I would like to know what is going on with the two comcast gateways and the wireless routers and ... and ... and ... I want to know telemetry of the network...

 

I can/have loaded the "free" solarwinds software on one of the PCs in the main building...

 

can I get to see the numbers from all the various network and PCs ? 


I guess I just need to deal with the software on the PC computer (not a server) but I can run it as the main solarwinds computer that collects the data I think...


any thoughts would be appreciated...
