Alerts after reboot of web server

After rebooting the web server for our NPM the email alerts stop working.  I then have to manually stop all the services on the server and then start them again for the alerts to work.  Does anyone have fix for this so we dont have to manually log into the server every time it is rebooted to fix the alerts?

NetPath and outlook.office.com:443

When I try to monitor outlook.office.com:443 in netpath, it shows ~50% packet loss to all nodes. Use of the service shows that this is clearly not actually happening for user traffic. What's up with this?

Network Atlas: ConnectNow not fully connecting

$

Hello,

I have a map created with nodes and most of the connections are able to be set via ConnectNow, but there are a few that do not connect via ConnectNow (L2 & 3). These connections pass traffic, but did not connect via ConnectNow and I manually added them.

I looked at the connections on the map, and those that have defined connections usually have an Interface Index identified at least on one side.

Do you need the Interface Index identified on at least one side in order for the connections to function on the map?

Thank you for your time.

Ken

When you installed NPM, did you add Nodes manually or did you run discovery?

We would like to improve user experience and for such reason I'd like to better understand if our users prefers INITIALLY to add nodes manually or run product network discovery in order to import devices to NPM

I'm on the User Experience (UX) team at SolarWinds and am looking for people who can spend one hour sometime next week (11/2 to 11/6) for a feedback session. We're working on new features around F5 load balancing support in NPM, and need people to review designs and give us their thoughts.

You must be using F5 devices for load balancing in your environmentand be free to meet for an hour through GoToMeeting sometime next week. You'll get 2000 thwack points for participating.

Please email me at tulsi.patel@solarwinds.com if you're interested in participating.

Thanks!

How can I have netflow top application report match the NPM interface utilization report?

$

As the title said, how can I have netflow top application report match the NPM interface utilization report?

I am asking this because I want it when NPM reports me that my bandwidth got high utilization, I can tell what kind of application traffic that is utilizing that much of bandwidth at that time.

However, I got confused as the total utlization number between netflow top application chart and NPM interface percent utilization chart is different

for example:

I have a 40 Mbps bandwidth from my ISP (I have modified the bandwidth to 40Mbps in the node configuration from fast ethernet default 100Mbps)

My router is cisco 1800 series, I only have flow enabled both ingress & egress in one interface of the router, i also have configured ip flow-cache timeout active 1

From this graph I can know that between 13:10 - 13:14 my link is utilized 43,47% (recv) and 45,65% (xmit)

However, if I observe the total utilization from netflow top applications graph in the same time range is not the same. For example, in below graph:

Total traffic inbound 27.54% + 19.49% + 0.3% + 0.03% = 47.36% --> compared to inbound 43,47%

Total traffic outbound 37.02% + 4.64% + 1.05% + 0.02% + 0.01% = 42,74%--> compared to outbound 45,65%

From what I can say, I dont limit my application monitoring only to only monitor some specified apps, so the traffic recorded in netflow should be all traffic that are "passing" that interface right?

And I can confirm that there are no bandwidth shaper appliance between the links, so everything is as it is.

Please kindly advise.

Monitor APs on WLC 4400 & 5508

I would like to use ORION NPM to monitor and alert on our wireless access points that are managed by Cisco controllers.

Currently I am able to monitor the controller (4400) and its associated Thin Access Points and connected clients.  I would like to be able to send an alert when one of the APs goes down.

I have set up as a test, the "Alert me when a Thin Wireless Access Point goes down" alert with a trigger action to send me an email.

The trigger condition is "status is equal to down".  The problem I have...i think...is when an AP goes down in our organization the WLC drops it from control and monitoring and when ORION runs the next poll it see the AP as"non-existent" instead of status down.  In other words...after the poll is completed the AP no longer shows in ORION to alert on.

Has anyone else come across this issue.

Thanks for your help.

Orion Univeral Device Poller Transform Regex for last 4 characters/digits

$

Hopefully this is easy but I have been fighting with this for a while

I am looking to write a regex for UDP transform that returns the last 4 digits/numbers

e.g. A001234A00987 would transform to 0987

I have tried a few things but nothing provides the correct result. The closest I got was

parse(.+\w+(?<result>\d\d\d\d),{poller}) which for the above example gave 987 but this is neither clean nor returns the 0 before 987

In PHP this would simply be written \d{4}$ but entering parse((?<result>\d{4}$),{poller}) gave an error.

Is there a better way this can be written to give me the last four?

Alert problem "Condition must exist for more than" not working in Alert Central

Hello

I have a problem when i make a Alert whit these settings:

Type of Property to monitor

Custom Node Poller

Enabled(On/Off):

ON

Evaluation Frequency of alert:

Every 15 seconds

Severity of alert:

Critical

Alert Custom Properties: (0)

No Alert Custom Properties defined

Alert Limitation Category

No Limitation

Trigger Condition:

Edit

Alert on all objects where:
Custom Poller - Unique Name - is equal to - Ucc
The actual trigger condition:
At least one child condition must be satisfied (OR)
Custom Poller Current Stats - Current Numeric Value - is less than or equal to - 9.5
Custom Poller Current Stats - Current Numeric Value - is greater than or equal to - 35

And i have the "Condition must exist for more than 10 min"

The universal poller is set to poll every 1 min

The value drops to 9.5 in 1 min and the alert is still trigging.

Why is the Alert still trigging when the value just drop for 1 min??

Hope for a god answer

Is there an on/off graphic? Like a light switch or a stop light?

I have been working on some dashboards with some UnDPs that are 0 or 1. I'd really like to just display a graphic showing a pic of a light switch On or Off, or maybe a Green or Red light. Does something like that exist and I've just missed it?

And how about a vertical gauge that looks like a thermometer?

SNMP trap receivers and polling engines

$

I'm using two polling engines, my primary NPM server and and additional poller. Not always knowing which poller will be polling a device, should I configure them to send traps to both, or just the primary?

Related questions I have...

Do traps received from a device (eg. link up/down) affect the polling of the device (polling rate, rediscovery, ..)?

If so, and assuming the device is being polled by the 'additional poller', will the trap have the same affect if it's received by the primary poller only?

Does configuring a device to send traps to both pollers cause any problems, ie duplication of traps in database?

thanks..

Sonar Discovery results include Solaris servers with polling address 255.255.255.255?

2016-10-24 08_52_01-Network Sonar Wizard.jpg

I did a manual import of scheduled network discovery results this morning, and noted that several Linux boxes ( that the Agent reports as Oracle Servers ) had a polling IP address of 255.255.255.255. The servers were already managed by Solarwinds , and had valid "10." polling IP addresses. Has anyone else seen this behavior before?

I went ahead and imported the results. Afterwards, I searched Solarwinds for nodes with IP address 255.255.255.255  and did not get any results.

High Receive Percent Utilization with Top Talkers Alert Question

$

Is there a way to configure a High Receive Percent Utilization with Top Talkers alert in such a way that it sends an email notification and the body of email has graph/tables of top talkers embedded in it. I know it can include the link to it but can the actual graphs/tables be included in on the email? Is it possible?

Btw, we are running NPM version 12.0.1

Thanks.

There was a file you could modify to give a report more time to run before the web server timed out the request. I don't remember which file it was. Anyone care to remind me?

Network Discovery Alert Variables

$

Getting emails from scheduled discovery jobs is very helpful, not knowing which discovery they come from isn't. I feel its possible but I need some SQL help to sort it out.

Info:

There are 2 tables we need to tie together:

     DiscoveryProfiles

     DiscoveryJobs

The discovery notification comes from the discovery jobs table. If you look at the table you can see a row for every job. That row contains variable "ProfileID".

I need to tie the "ProfileID" variable from the "DiscoveryJobs" table to the "ProfileID" in the "DiscoveryProfiles" table so I can pull out the "Name" of that discovery.

I would like to have the "Name" of the profile inserted into the email so when i get 6+ a night i know which job it came from. This would also be helpful in the discovery failed emails so you would know which discovery failed to run.
