How do we get assigned a new Sales Rep?

$

Every time myself, management or another department engages with our sales rep it's a complete disaster.  This guy doesn't hear what we are saying, or asking for.  He comes to us with solutions for which we don't have problems half the time.  I spend too much time after every engagement with him doing damage control to try and keep SolarWinds products in here.

SolarWinds Domains/IP's To Add to Trusted Sites

$

There used to be a Support article that listed all of the Domains and IP's that SolarWinds uses to host their websites and downloadable content.  This was useful for companies that had tight firewall restrictions since they could add exceptions for these to their ACL's.  While we don't have heavy restrictions on our internet connections here, I do like to keep the Internet Control Panel Trusted Sites list on our SolarWinds servers filled in with all of the domains and sites that it contacts to insure that the Trusted Site policies are applied to the proper sites.  However, even though I have *.SolarWinds.com added as a trusted site on all of our SolarWinds servers and my local workstation, any time I download something from the Customer Portal I still have to right-click on it and Unblock, making me think that the actual installers are hosted on a third party site.  We have amazonaws and amazon added, so if it was hosted there it still wouldn't be blocked.

Is there still a list anywhere of all of the IP's/Domains that SolarWinds servers access, including the domain where the Customer Portal installer and hotfix files are hosted?  Especially since we have the all-in-one online installers now, I'd really like the Trusted Site policy being applied to all of the downloads that the installer gets.

Hi All,

we are receiving application down alert stating that services are unknown state in most of the time but while checking we see the services are running good .

is there any fix please share.

ASA not showing any data for Remote VPN Connections

I upgraded to NPM 12.2 earlier this week, and have since started monitoring our ASA through Orion.  At some point yesterday, no information is showing for the "Remote Access VPN" connections.  (There was information there a day or two ago.)   That particular page just says "No data to show."

All of the other tabs (Platform, Interfaces, Site-to-Site Tunnels) on the ASA monitoring webpages are showing up just fine.  Any ideas on how to troubleshoot the Remote Access VPN tab?

Thanks.

Is there any way to figure out trunk ports in existing network devices as well as port end devices?

Create resource to track temperature sensor history from CAI WebControl appliance.

I am trying to create a resource(?) that can be updated hourly and be used to track room temperature readings from a CAI WebControl-8 PLC appliance.  I'm not sure if this should be in NPM or SAM.  The field(s) would have to be manually updated from SWIS/SDK/Powershell since the appliance does not support SNMP, only .CGI calls.   Each node could have up to 8 DS18b20 temp sensors to track.

If using netpath, can you create a probe from 1 network device to another or is a server required?

Bandwidth utilization report - no Netflow

$

Is there a way to get a bandwidth utilization report where: 1) you don't have the availability of using Netflow; and 2) you want to see the percent utilization of the actual available bandwidth, not as a it relates to the speed of the interface. What I mean by number 2 is, our ISP-facing interface is a 1Gb link, but we only get 500 Mbps of bandwidth from them. Any percent utilization reports I've done always use the capability of the interface as the number that NPM uses to calculate utilization percentage from, not the actual bandwidth that's available to us. Just wondering if there's an edit I can do to 'trick' NPM into thinking that 500 meg is the full pipe, not 1 gig.

Any of that make sense???

How to install new hotfix bundle on APE?

$

I installed the new Hotfix Bundle for Products with Orion 2017.3 on our primary polling engine this morning without issues.

When I wanted to install on our APE, I get a systems check error that I must use the "Scalability engines installer". However when I use that installer, it does not seem to install any updates.

How do you install hotfixes on APE's now?

Quick Help I hope

So we got some F5 up and running and have the out of the box alerts running -

I am trying to set up an alert when a pool member goes down for only my 2 prd F5's and I thinking I am doing it correctly from my end but I am also seeing unmanaged pool members

Polling at different intervals?

I think I already know the answer but wants to make sure. Can you tell the polling engine no to poll all the devices at the same time? Let me clarify, Can I group all my devices into 2 or 3 different groups and then tell the polling engine to poll those at different intervals? i.e. poll group 1 every XX, group 2 every XX, and so on.  I'm looking at this question from a network performance point of view, not the solarwinds server.

Need alert for multiple disk failures on same node

I have both NPM 12.1 and SRM 6.4. I need to alert when 2 or more physical disks on the same node are down. I can see how to use the Advanced Trigger conditions to do this for multiple disks, but I think it will probably alert when at least two disks are down even if they are on different nodes. I mention that I have SRM as well because I'm not sure if I will need a separate alert for physical disks that are part of an array. I need for this alert or alerts to cover any physical disk. Any ideas please? Thanks in advance.

Changing Monitored Resources in Bulk

Hello Everyone,

We have a bunch of nodes. Say we want to unmanage a resource, for example loopback interfaces, from nodes we have already discovered. Can this be done in bulk? SQL server, maybe?

Thanks in Advance

SolarWinds Domains/IP's To Add to Trusted Sites (Partially Solved)

$

SOLVED (kind of):Figured this one out myself.  After doing a Wireshark capture while downloading something from the CustomerPortal, I confirmed that the files are hosted at amazonaws.com, which was already added as a Trusted Site on the server, yet  any file downloaded from there was still "Blocked" and had to be UnBlocked.    This doesn't technically solve my main question which is "Is there a list of external Domains and IP Addresses that Orion polling engines contact?", but I at least solved the issue of Trusted Site downloads still being blocked.

For those interested in solving it, here is what I did:

  • Opened the inetcpl.cpl from an administrator command prompt (right-click on cmd and choose Run as Administrator)
  • Clicked on the Security tab and chose Trusted Sites
  • Clicked the Custom Level button near the bottom
  • Scrolled down to the Miscellaneous section
  • Changed the option for "Launching applications and unsafe files" from Prompt to Enable
  • Then clicked "OK", then "Apply".

Now, you can technically do this for the Internet Zone, but I highly recommend you don't.  Instead, add the domains you know are trusted (like solarwinds.com, amazonaws.com, etc…) to your Trusted Sites list, then change this setting.  As long as you don't have a domain group policy overriding this it should fix it for you.

Original question:

We're doing some research around improving Orion's syslog and SNMP trap capabilities. As part of this task, we need to obtain samples of syslog and SNMP trap rules from customer's environments in order to understand how our users are currently leveraging rules. Please follow the steps below to submit your rules to us and earn 1,000 Thwack points:

For Orion Core 2016.1 or newer

  1. On your Orion server, go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Orion Diagnostics.
  2. Expand Advanced Data Collection Options > uncheck all the Quick Data Filters:

   3. Expand "included data" > Expand "Orion Diagnostics" > Select the DB tables listed below

    1. Syslog table (Last 1000)*
    2. SyslogActions
    3. SyslogRules
    4. SyslogNodes
    5. TrapActions
    6. TrapRules
    7. TrapRulesDetail
    8. Traps table (Last 1000)*

    4. Click "Start and Save Diagnostics"

    5. Once all data collection is completed, zip into a single file and upload it to https://Share.SolarWinds.com/?ShareToken=968582E1C142EE2BF6E63AFA69DA0F034BE80E9F

For Older Orion Core versions

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Database Manager
  2. Add default server > Select Orion Database > New Query > Execute the query below > Export to CSV file (see the screenshot below)

    SELECT * FROM [dbo].[TrapRules]

  3. Repeat Step 2 for the following queries (one row at a time)
    SELECT * FROM [dbo].[TrapActions]

        SELECT * FROM [dbo].[TrapRulesDetail]

         SELECT TOP 1000 * FROM [dbo].[Traps] *

        SELECT TOP 1000 * FROM [dbo].[SysLog] *

        SELECT * FROM [dbo].[SyslogRules]

        SELECT * FROM [dbo].[SyslogActions]

        SELECT * FROM [dbo].[SyslogNodes]

   4. Once all data collection is completed, compress all files into one and upload it to https://Share.SolarWinds.com/?ShareToken=968582E1C142EE2BF6E63AFA69DA0F034BE80E9F

*Tables marked with * are optional as they contain syslog and trap data. These tables will be used to calculate event throughput.

Make a comment below once you've uploaded the data and I'll assign your 1,000 points.

Thank you!
