Hi everyone,
Need description for solarwinds services.
Thanks in advance.

How can we recover or replace our SQL server SA password? We might be using a default password - the man who installed the software left without documenting the password.
Can you help me?
I want to report on the output of the "show license in-use" command only my Cisco 4510's so I can find which ones are using an Enterprise License, or Advanced, or IP Base, and I thought I knew how to build a report to do it. But I can't seem to get it working so far, and I'm reaching out to the Thwack community for some expert advice.
First I want to only run this against the Machine Type "Cisco Catalyst 4510R+E".
Second, I want the output of the "show license in-use" command.
That's all. So simple. And I just can't quite figure out how to make it run. Can you help me out with some advice, some baby-step commands?
The output of a the "show license in-use" command looks like this:
(Node Name) show license in-use
License Store: Primary License Storage
StoreIndex: 1 Feature: entservices Version: 1.0
License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, In Use
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: Medium
License Store: Dynamic License Storage
I thought the process of getting this information would be as follows:
And there's where I'm stuck. This generates a report of 4510 nodes' names, but there's nowhere to run a custom Query and see the output.
Is what I want to do possible? I'm hoping to get the attention of some Thwack members with history generating SWQL reports that are filtered to only include this specific Machine Type. I'm wondering if some certain Thwacksters have interest & time to point out where I'm messing up (folks like sqlrockstar or adatole or aLTeReGo, or maybe someone they'd care to point me to?)
I'm looking to see only 4510's, and see the output of something like this:
SELECT NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.IPAddress, NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.SysName, NT.NodeProperties.Nodes.MachineType, NT.DeviceOutput
FROM NCM.TransferResults NT
WHERE (RequestedScript LIKE 'show license in-use%')
I'm missing some basic Report-building skill, and I don't know where to turn. Can you offer advice?

Is it possible to generate a report of all users?
Hello Community! I recently deployed agents on various of the nodes I monitor and as marked in the attachment it says "Reboot Pending". Now I know that I can reboot the machine, BUT, what I wanted to know is if I can schedule a reboot due to that im not in the office at the time that I can actually work on that. Not sure if can be done but if it cant yet, would be something nice to implement as well as other options. Thank you in advance!
I'm trying to get an IP address of a specific interface and then run some commands from another device. I am using SWQL to get the IP address and a SWIS variable to pass the NodeID.
Does anyone know if there is a limitation for resolving variables and SWQL at the same time?
Here is what I'm trying to do.
ping ${N=SWQL;M=select IPAddress from Orion.NodeIPAddresses where IPAddress like '10.254.%' and InterfaceIndex = '2' and NodeID = '${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeID}'}
Here is the result.
ping ${N=SWQL;M=select IPAddress from Orion.NodeIPAddresses where IPAddress like '10.254.%' and InterfaceIndex = '2' and NodeID = '32'}
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
You can see that the variable resolves but the SWQL doesn't, but if I run just SWQL like below it works (I expect the pings to fail).
ping ${N=SWQL;M=select IPAddress from Orion.NodeIPAddresses where IPAddress like '10.254.%' and InterfaceIndex = '2' and NodeID = '32'}
ping 10.254.x.x
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.254.x.x, timeout is 2 seconds:
.....
Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)
I have just finished a fresh install of Platform 2018.2.1 SP1 with NPM 12.3 and am experiencing an issue that was supposedly fixed with an earlier version. Namely, that links are randomly disappearing from menu bars. For example, the Settings menu appears with only the Settings link - the Manage Nodes and Network Discovery links are missing. The user account logged in has all the default settings and no limitations. Running the Config Wizard repairs the functionality.
Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.
What has your upgrade to NPM 12.3 on Orion Platform 2018.2 looked like? We on the product manager team would like to hear about it all, the good the bad and the ugly! For a starting point here is a quick getting started blog post on upgrading to 2018.2 Orion Platform: Preparing for the Upgrade to 2018.2
I can't for the life of me figure out where to change the Default "Home" Group Summary page. I've built a custom Group Summary page, and assigned it as the default and home view of a user. However, when i go to Group Details, in the upper right corner there's a dropdown bar which says "Home", which then takes me to the out-of-the-box Group Summary page. I'd like to press that Home button in the dropdown menu (not the menu bar) and go to my custom Group Summary page, and not the out-of-the-box one. You can see in the attached picture which Home bar i'm referring to.
Thanks in advance! I hope i'm just being blind and missing something.
Hi,
I am looking for few plans and perquisites for below process can you please help me out for the same?
[1] for installing patches on the existing environment ( looking for SolarWinds patches-process)
[2] for the upgrade/migration test and prod. to server 2016 and SQL 2016: Plan to migrate test and prod. SolarWinds platform servers from 2012 R2 to Server 2016 & Migrating/upgradation the SQL (database) to SQL 2016?
[3] What perquisites should be followed before doing SolarWinds windows (from 2012 R2 to 2016) servers and SQL databases (2014 R2 to 2016)?
I'm looking to upgrade from Server 2008 R2 to 2016. My NPM is 12.0.1 with other modules that I'm looking to upgrade. How would I go about this? I figure that the Server will need to be upgraded first for sure but my main concern is what happens to all my backups? Do I need to do a fresh install of NPM since I have a new OS or is there an easier way like migration? I'm looking for the most painless way as possible. Thank you in advance.
1) I am installing NPM 12.2 with NCM and have downloaded the package but as I am going through the installation package, I don't see an option to choose which Drive I want Solarwinds to be installed on; it defaults to the C drive. Is there a way to choose?
2) I will use the SQL Express database for this installation as well. If I preinstall SQL Express before I execute the installation package, will the package ask me if it will use the current SQL Express or will it automatically create its own? Will there even be an option to choose?
3) This is for scalability down the road if the network ever gets larger but for now SQL Express has worked out; I'm using the SL500 license and have not reached half the capacity yet but let's say I reach close to the limit of 500 interfaces or need to upgrade my license to SL2000, is there a way to move from SQL Express to a separate SQL database?
I appreciate all feedback and real life experiences.
I'm being nitpipcky about this but... the docs I'm finding are a little unclear
These official (and up to date? It says Oct 2016) docs about migrating don't talk about certificates at all UNLESS you're using SSL for the Orion website. It references "SolarWinds products", not just NPM: Migrate SolarWinds products to a new server with a new IP and hostname - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
It indicates "Use these instructions if you are migrating any of our SolarWinds products, including NPM, SAM, NCM, and NTA."
I happened to run across this doc that seems up to date ( no date on the page but the URL looks legit) , indicating that you need to migrate a "SolarWinds Job Scheduler Engine" cert for NCM: Move SolarWinds UDT to a new server - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
What bothers me is that this doesn't look like an NCM specific cert, but looks like something that might be shared among multiple SolarWinds products. If this were true, I would think the first link would have referenced migrating it.
It looks like you need to always migrate this cert as it relates to encrypted data/credentials. I guess if you didn't migrate it then you would have to manually clean up the system and delete/re-enter and associate credentials?
I happened across this doc (March 2017) : Migrate certificates to a new server for SAM - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
It references moving a cert *if* you have agents...but the cert is specifically named for SAM so it seems reasonable, but once again, migration of product specific certs is not mentioned in the first link.
Is there actually a need (with recent versions of NPM/SAM/NCM) for migrating any certificates by hand if you move to a new server + IP?
My environment is: Orion Platform 2017.1.3 SP3, NCM 7.6,NPM 12.1, SAM 6.4.0
Hello! We are using Solarwinds NPM 11.5.3 and I'm trying to edit a report schedule but I can't seem to be able to use a specific account. Whenever I try to use the account, I can't validate the pw, it fails when I click on the test button. I can use my own account or someone else' but not this account. It's working fine when I run something like a DOS window or anything else. Weirdly, the existing schedule are working fine with this account. It's really when I want to use it in a new schedule or when I modify one. Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks!
Chris.
Want a simple summary of your NetPath services? You can do it with Custom Tile. It comes out like this:
Clicking on any of the statuses or numbers will bring you to that list with naming convention <Service Name> (<Probe Name>):
Clicking on a path will take you to the path visualization NetPath is known for.
To get this yourself, customize a page and add the "custom tile" widget:
After placing on the page, click "Edit" in the top right of the widget and select one of the NetPath options under Entity Filter:
If you want to get fancy, you can add an advanced entity filter and filter to a specific, widely monitored Service, or all sorts of other pivots:
Add several of these to a page to build a dashboard. It's a neat use of a common resource. Thanks to jblankjblank and his team for creating this and showing me this NetPath specific customization.
I am running Server 2008 R2 SP1 for the main Orion and NTA pollers and have a Server 2008 R2 (not sure if it's SP1) for my SQL server. I am upgrading:
NPM 12.0.1
VNQM 4.2.4
SAM 6.2.4
NCM 7.5
NTA 4.2.0
to NPM 12.1, SAM 6.4, NCM 7.6, NTA 4.2.2 & VNQM 4.4.
I do know I will need to create backups/snapshots and have my .NET Framework upgraded to 4.6.2 before anything. I have downloaded the offline installers for NTA and NPM which I was informed includes all the other module upgrades as well. Do I install the NPM upgrade first then install the upgrade for my NTA server or should I do the NTA server first? Is there anything I need to do on my SQL database side besides create backups? My Orion and NTA servers are VMs, will simple snapshots suffice as a backup on their ends? Any other obstacles or surprises I should expect in this process? I'm trying to have a smooth transition. Please advise.
Thank you.
Hi,
I have some challenges related packet loss, please help to fix this.
Could you please let me know if there is any way if Router has packet loss it should not trigger alert for the child node which is behind it. In this Case 'Router A' has the primary connection which has packet loss so we should get only alert for 'Router A' and not for other device behind it.
I know Solarwinds constantly pulls info but does it push any info out on a regular basis or at all? I know you can push out configurations manually via NCM. If Solarwinds does push out, what exactly does it push out and how often? Hopefully this isn't confusing. I'm trying to switch over to NPM 12.2 from my 12.1 where both are on VMs. All my devices have the 12.1 server's IP address in their ACLs and I'm about to switch over that IP address to the 12.2 server and give the 12.1 server a different one. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Is there a way to create a view that includes information from different nodes? For example, in the diagram below I want a little info from node A and node B to be placed into one Custom view titled "Connection 1." The information I would place in this view would be:
1) status of both nodes
2) status of the physical interfaces these nodes use to connect to each other
3) the routing protocol
The reason for this is because if any of these are down, the connection between the 2 are down. I have multiple connections like the example below and will eventually place them into a NOC view. If this cannot be done, does anyone have an alternative?
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Discovery Engine
When doing a Network Discovery it will fail and I'm told to check the Discovery Log. Had a hard time finding it.
I don't have a fix for the problem yet but here is the log.
